III.

I hear faint voices.

"Look at him he fell asleep with the letter..."

"Shhh! He'll hear you!"

"Ouch! Was the pinch necessary?"

"Shut up Ren!"

I open my eyes to see each of my kids by my side.

"Oh, Dad you're awake." Said Ai.

"Good Morning, we brought you some breakfast." Said Ren.

"Ow, my head..." I said.

"You have puffy eyes; I guess you should drink some medicine for your headache. Here." Ren handed me some pills and Ai a glass of water.

"I know it's going to take some time until you ... get used to all of this... but" whispered Ai.

"In the mean time we brought you some books, you know so you can learn a little more about what's been happening all these years..." Interrupted Ren.

"Thanks, I appreciate all of this you're doing for me."

Honestly I can barely hold myself together, my goal as a vampire was to always keep the love of my life smiling, happy and human.

My reason of being alive or dead is gone, everything seems meaningless. Honestly, the only thing that can keep me going is-..

"We have to go to school, so you'll have to stay here reading until we come home at 4:30. You'll be ok right?" Ai asked.

"You should go to school. I could use some human time too." I responded.

"If you need anything you can tell our half time maid. We requested her to be early today so do not hesitate to ask her anything. " Said Ren.

"I'll be fine. Go."

After a few hours of deep sleep, I awake in boredom and bitterness of this new life and decide to read some of the books the kids left when I hear a door open on the first floor.

"Kuran-san?" asked a long haired girl on the doorstep.

"You must be the maid." I said as I walked the stairs.

"Maid?! Oh Ren, that bastard!" she whispered angrily.

I take my leave.

"Kuran..san?"

"Yes?"

"Please tell me if you need anything." She said.

"What's your name?"

"Oh, I'm sorry I didn't even introduce myself (she anxiously steps a little bit forward), I'm Hana Hikishima. Nice too meet you."

"I'm Kuran Kaname, nice too meet you. I'll be in my room."

"Ok..." she responded.

I close the door and consequently fell on the floor, I can't even dare to look at the box... I've had enough as it is. Each time I blink there's a pain that grows on my chest knowing that Yuki is non-existing because of me living... My stomach growled and fear came in replaced my emotions, I step up and without even realizing I'm on the first floor kitchen observing Hikishima-san.

"Oh. Kuran-san!"

I get startled and snap out of my own limbo.

"Are you ok Kura-"

"I'm fine, I just wa-"

My stomach does a big growl.

She chuckles and smiles.

"You didn't have breakfast?"

"The ki- My cousins brought food to my room but I guess I'm getting used to this new style of food..." I corresponded.

"Oh right! Ai told me, you used to live in a farm so you're not used to these foods; you used to live with they're aunt but, she..."

She pity looked at me, as though she could understand!

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't hav-"

"That's right you shouldn't have. Why are you here anyways if you're not the maid? Did they tell you to keep watch on me?!"

She grew sad as her gaze was fixed directly to my eyes. She suddenly smiles.

"I guess they thought I might understand your situation. I apologize if I opened a recent wound." She bowed slightly and then continued to work at the kitchen.

I go to my room. Why is that girl so irritating?! I close the door harshly and jump to my bed as my stomach growls again.

"Yuki..."

Yuki how is this living if there's no you in it?! How ?!

"Why can I live and she can't?!" I screamed in tears.

I don't want this! I don't deserve this, any of it! I just wanted her to-

I stop my thoughts and almost my fast beating heart as I remember a faint voice saying...

"May your thirst be quenched."

"Yuki...Yuki...Yuki!" I stop my screams as I realize the girl is watching my scene.

I see her tears growing but she holds it in and steps forward with some towels in her hands.

"Ai told me you didn't know how to use the shower so, I will. Common' get up."

She pants my back as she tries to make me stand.

"Why am I here, and she's not?" I whispered.
