Bender sat back in his chair as Vernon placed a hand on Andrew's table. He mumbled something incoherent and Vernon stood up."What was that?" Vernon asked, tight-lipped and ready to fight. He walked over to Benders table and Alex cringed backward, already knowing what was about to happen.
"Eat. My. Shorts." Bender replied slowly. Vernon pointed a finger in his face.
"You just bought yourself another Saturday, mister." He snapped.
"Oh, I'm crushed." Bender replied sarcastically.
"You just bought one more right there."
"Well, I'm free the Saturday after that. Beyond that, I'm gonna have to check my calendar." Bender shot back again, facing Vernon like he had no fear.
"Good! Because it's gonna be filled! We'll keep going. You want another one? Say the word. Just say the word. Instead of going to prison, you'll come here." Bender folded his arms. "Are you through?"
"No."
"I'm doing society a favour."
"So?" The back and forth kept going, and Alex's frown grew more and more.
"That's another one, right now. I've got you for the rest of your natural born life if you don't watch your step. You want another one?"
"Yes."
"You got it! You got another one right there. That's another one, pal."
"Cut it out! Stop." Claire cried from her table. Bender shot her a glare.
"You through?" Vernon asked again.
"Not even close, bud." Bender kept going. Alex was fidgeting with her sleeve, now.
"Good. You got one more right there." Vernon replied.
"You really think I give a shit?" Bender asked, deadpan.
"Bender, stop it!" Alex said from her table, causing Bender to look over at her in confusion. It wasn't the same as the look he gave Claire.
"You stay out of this, Lawson. Right after you join Bender in yet another detention." Vernon scowled at Alex, and she put her head in her hands. "You through?" He turned back to Bender.
"How many is that?" Bender asked rhetorically.
"That's seven, including the one when we first came in here and you asked Mr. Vernon here whether Barry Manilow knew that he raided his closet. And she has one more." Smart kid cut in, pointing over his shoulder at Alex.
"Well now it's eight! And you stay out of it." Vernon shot him a look.
"Excuse me, sir, it's seven." Smart kid replied holding up his fingers. Alex took her head out of her hands to look at him with wide eyes. Is this guy for real?
"Shut up, peewee. Now you get one, and your friend there get's another." Vernon growled, motioning to Alex. She groaned as she put her forehead against the table again. Vernon turned back to Bender, holding his hands in a 'rock and roll' symbol. He flipped it back and forth in front of Bender's face. "You're mine, Bender. For two months, I got you. I got you."
"What can I say, I'm thrilled." Bender enunciated.
"Oh, I'm sure that's exactly what you want these people to believe." Vernon enticed. "You know something Bender? You ought to spend a little more time trying to do something with yourself, and a little less time trying to impress people. You might be better off. Alright, that's it!" He shouted, addressing the whole room now.
