27. walk away
"Walk away, please go before you throw your life away, A life I could share for just a day."//
Namjoon's face when he read the newspaper was a sight no one noticed.
however, if you did— you would've seen the most shocking and unbelievable expression. Namjoon, tall and handsome, stood still in the middle of the pavement. for a moment he forgot he was in New York as he got pushed aside by many, passing civilians. the words from the paper were circling round his mind— 'Jung Hoseok is the name of the man who jumped from his apartment building. he was a construction worker.'
Namjoon had dropped the newspaper and ran his ringed hand down the side of his face. there was no picture of Hoseok but all he could see was his face— the face of a client he thought was getting better, the face of a father who just wanted more but also the face of someone who went about things the wrong way.
that's when the therapist suddenly furrowed his brows, stood up straight and realised something. he was getting better— he had no intention of suicide.
so why would he jump out of his window?
the more he thought about it, the more it didn't make sense.
Hoseok may have been a loser, a poor worker but he wasn't someone who gave up. he finally had the chance to fulfill his dream of being a father— Namjoon can't see the boy simply giving up on that.
the older man sighed, carrying on with his day as he left the streets of New York and entered his therapy practice. the hours merged into one as he sat back and listened, asked questions and drank whatever drink he could find in his fridge. all whilst thinking about Hoseok— one of his special clients, who wouldn't ever sit in the chair opposite him.
by the end of the day, Namjoon had spread out the newspaper onto his dining room table. things weren't adding up, he thought to himself as he leaned forward— hand on either side of the irrelevantly detailed paper. he doesn't buy it as a suicide.
//
Namjoon stands by his front door, contemplating whether or not to wear his hat today. he decides to, slipping it over his hair before leaving his apartment building. today is an important day.
he cancelled all of his client sessions. today is for Hoseok, he reminds himself as he holds onto the railing of the bus. he doesn't want to feel like a detective but he does, he really does. he's going to try to do something the police won't do and that is... bring justice to a broken man.
in the late hours of the day, the sun has set and Namjoon stands in front of the famous building where famous stars reside. he spots a flickering, lit window and spots a signature hat belonging to Taehyung.
Namjoon writes in his notepad, removing his own hat before walking away. after a day of picking up clues and simply observing— his true and best ability, he's found that everything leads to one person.
Kim Taehyung.
