I don't know how long I flew. I didn't pay attention to anything, except the stabbing pain in my heart.
I shook my head and pushed on, seeing a building ahead.
Landing on the roof, I tip-toed over to the glass square and peered in.
It looked completely empty, so I slipped through the glass after expanding my molecules.
Landing softly, I came together and took in my surroundings.
A small window was mounted in the middle of the wall, half of the glass broken. The wall itself was peeling and shards of plaster and glass were strewn around.
Something caught my eye and I cautiously walked forward. Scratch marks were lined up in rows of three, like days being counted down.
Frowning, I examined the rest of the room. It seemed deserted, so I made myself at home.
Curling my wings around myself, I layed down on the hard ground and tried not to cry myself to sleep.

Later, I awoke with my wings cramping and my eyes crusty from crying.
I stood up and stretched, feeling the veins in my wings flex. Folding them across my back, I reached for my jacket, only to remember I didn't bring it with me.
Scowling, I searched around for some firewood. Gathering a few strips into a pile, I set it on fire and huddled in front of its warmth.
Birds chirped outside, and I smiled. At least I could fly with them. The joys of flying meant everything to me. I don't know what I'd do without my wings.
I felt a pang in my chest. My mother lost her wings. Then an idea hit me: if I can heal with my water bending, maybe I can heal her scars and bring her wings back!
That thought gave me hope, and I stood up. If James wanted to toss me aside, then I could heal my own spiritual and emotional wounds.
Feeling a sudden sense of relief, I put out the fire and walked toward the door.
If James wanted to move on, fine. I would too. He was probably a traitor anyway; his brother was already in deep.
I glanced back at the small room and smiled. I learned alot from being on my own, even if for a short time.
Turning around, I spread my wings and stared at the bright sky. A flock of birds flew past overhead, and I smiled.
Flapping hard, I pushed myself off the ground.
If Bryson and Shane wanted a war, they would get one. I would make sure of it.
They were going to pay for what they did to my parents. And every other mutant like me.
But first, I needed to right some wrongs. If I died in the battle that was about to come, then I wanted my old classmates to know the truth.
Stopping in the air, I turned and flew towards the one place that could help me: my home.
