Heyyyy everyone, schools out!!!

I hope you all are enjoying summer vacation so far, I know I am!

Im so happy schools out! Ill be graduating this coming year, so im pumped!

Anyway, onto the story:

***

I stared at James, horror slowly growing on me. It wasn't his fault, but I knew I would never look at him the same.

He had Shane's genes. What if he used that as an excuse to do something wrong, and hurt me?

I shook my head, trying to push that thought away.

He choked out a sob, anger plastered on his face. He clenched his jaw; his eyes betraying his true thoughts. "When I found out I...I tried to escape. I didn't want to stay there. However, he...my father...had other plans for me.

"Bryson beat the hell out of me, and when I came to, I felt really different. I couldn't control my actions. Deep down, I knew what was going on but was powerless to do anything about it."

He shook his head, tears falling from his eyes.

Instinctively, I moved closer and wrapped my arms around him.

"My own father used me as a guinea pig for some new "medicine". How sick can you get?"

"What kind of medicine?" I asked gently.

"It's not a medicine for healing things, but one for taking over cells in the brain. It lets them temporarily take control of your body, and you can't do anything about it."

He sighed.

I stared into the crackling flames, not knowing what to say. Sorry didn't seem to be good enough.

He took my hand and squeezed it. "Can you promise me something?"

I swallowed hard. Could I? "Sure." I hoped my voice didn't shake.

"Can you promise me that you'll stay with me until I get my...condition figured out? I need you to be with me."

I hesitated. Then, "Yes. I promise."

He squeezed my hand and sighed. "Thank you."

I gently smiled. What could I say? I had just made him a promise, one that I couldn't go back on. It would kill him.

We stayed by the fire until it went out, but I was practically asleep. I dimly felt him lift me up and carry me inside the tent.

He laid me down, then zipped up the front of the tent.

The last thing I felt before drifting off into slumber was his arm wrap around my stomach and hold me close.

The next morning, I awoke before James, being careful not to get him up.

I smiled at him; he looked so dang cute when he was asleep.

I quietly spread my molecules and slipped through the front of the tent. Quietly fetchin my weapons from behind the tent, I strapped them to my sides and glanced back at the tent.

Spreading my wings wide, I stretched in the morning sun. It glared down at me from the light blue sky, already threatening to be a super hot day.

My armour, even though it was heavy, had a built-in airway, where freah air could circulate through all day.

Poor James. He'd have to deal with the heat.

"Where are you going?" A groggy voice asked me.

I jumped and turned around, folding my wings against my back. "Hi James. I wasn't going anywhere. I was stretching my arms and wings. It's gonna be a long day."
