Kim Mingyu has always been studious. He's good at studying and he likes that. He's okay with being a nerd because at least he knows what he's doing.

At least he's good at it.

Studying is like second nature to him. He finds Calculus therapeutic, Korean and English literature exciting and he finds you pretty..

See lately, you're his new favourite subject.

Lately he's okay with being stuck in a one sided love affair because at least he gets lost in your eyes.

At least it's you.

Crushing on your friend isn't exactly what he had hoped to happen, but he knew the whole "guys and girls can't just be friends," has a more psychological approach than statistical. He knew it would only be a matter of time until his big brain would turn stupid for love. Beyond his feelings, he knows where he stands. He's a friend far before he's a lover.

You two are platonic.

He knows you don't see him as a man and that.. Well, he doesn't know what to do with that.

"I don't wanna do this anymore!"

"You can do it, Y/N-ssi. We've covered this material a hundred times. Believe in yourself, okay?"

"No! I can't and I won't."

"Y/N.."

Your eyes water up, mocking your emotional endurance. Once the droplet hits the opened textbook, you stare at it blankly before you feel your breathing quicken. Before you know it, you're beginning to tremble.

It's a cold Saturday night and you're struggling to recall all the concepts and formulas for your accounting class. Your major isn't even accounting, but it's a required course. It's a mandatory pain in the ass considering how much you despise math.

In his apartment, you find yourself being way too comfortable. Mingyu sits himself beside you and can't help but let a little laugh escape from his lips.

You're so dramatic.

But it's cute.

He thinks you don't trust yourself enough and that's what blocks you from actually studying. You have a weird tendency to be overdramatic about situations that don't really need to be blown out of proportion. He can't blame you for reacting that way when you feel pressure. It's only human of you. So over the years, he's familiarized himself with methods on how to make you feel better.

For starters, he lets you cry. Then, he exchanges your exaggerated claims with calm words. He'll give you a hug and wait for you to come to back down to earth.

He's patient; something you're hoping to be later on in life.

"I can't do this, Mingyu! I'm going to fail this exam and then I'm going to have to retake the whole class and then I'll be behind! I'm so fucking stupid, I hate this! I hate myself, I hate school!" You cry, falling towards the books. Your body is quivering from all the crying and everything feels like it's on fire. He watches as a great tremor overtakes you.

"You're smart, Y/N."

"Yah! Stop making fun of me. It's not nice."

You're so exhausted from rereading the same fucking text over and over again just to have it unmemorized. You're so tired of pulling all nights and feeling so drained from all the work you put into your other courses. You're so tired of feeling stupid.

"You remind me of SpongeBob, you know? You and him cry the same." He teases. Before you know it, he's rolling his fists and mimicking your cry. You hit his chest playfully and let out another heavy sob.
