The curtains flutter from the gentle breeze dancing through the open window and reveal the stars scattered across the night sky. They twinkle and shine, and look down on the couple dozing in the bed, chasing away any bad dreams and casting a soft light on their faces that brings out their delicate features.
Jungwoo rolls over and wraps his arms around Mark's waist to pull him closer, spooning him and inhaling the familiar shampoo scent. The alarm clock flashes. 1:38am. His eyes fall closed again, but sleep is nowhere to be found now that he's awake. He breaths out a steady stream of air, nuzzling his nose into his boyfriend's hair. The strands are dark and soft, and tousled from sleep in a way that Jungwoo always likes to tease him for when he wakes up.
He doesn't want to disturb Mark from his slumber, so he lays as still as possible and just enjoys the warmth they share. The duvet is nearly falling off the bed, but it's easily fixed and soon both their bodies are covered by the printed stars that mirror the night sky.
Jungwoo doesn't want the night to end. It's exhausting, having to dash between classes and his two part-time jobs, so these moments of peace are often rarities where he can finally allow the stress to lift off his shoulders. He hugs Mark a little tighter.
"Woo?" Mark's voice is raspy and thick with sleepiness, and a smile graces Jungwoo's lips.
"I didn't mean to wake you, sorry." He whispers back.
"'S alright." Mark mutters, cut off by a yawn. Jungwoo giggles and twirls a strand of Mark's hair around his finger.
They lay in the quiet for a while, lazily smiling and connecting their lips in a sweet kiss every few minutes. They can't get enough of each other. A particularly strong gust of wind tickles their faces and Mark shivers, then rolls over to huddle into Jungwoo's chest.
"Want me to close the window?" Jungwoo asks. He untangles his legs from Mark's and makes it across the room.
Now that he's closer to the source of cold, his shorts do nothing to prevent goosebumps from prickling his skin and he hurries to get the window closed. He turns back to Mark, who gazes at him with round eyes and a gentle pout as he holds his arms out to request his boyfriend to keep cuddling him. Of course, Jungwoo gives in and it's much more comfortable in the warmth.
Jungwoo flicks the crusts of sleep from Mark's eyes, then gifts him with another kiss that lasts longer than all the others. Neither bothers to move, so they just let their lips rest together, breaths mingling and waning in unison. They pull apart with small giggles.
"I love you." Mark whispers.
"I love you more." Jungwoo replies. Mark frowns.
"But I love you more." He insists. Jungwoo rolls his eyes and suggests that they don't get into that argument again, and Mark is too sleepy to keep going, giving in with a content hum.
"The stars are pretty." Mark says. He strains his neck to peer past his boyfriend and admire the sparkles in the sky between the crack in the curtains. "Pretty, like you."
Jungwoo rolls over to look at them too. Mark shifts to lay across his chest, and they take in the sight of the glinting stars.
"Look." Jungwoo raises a finger to outline a particular constellation. "It's a smiley face!" Mark squints, struggling on the cusp of sleep and in the darkness, then his face lights up when he spots it.
"That's so cool." He breathes out. "But I prefer your smile."
"You're being rather flirty tonight, Markie. Are you feeling okay?" Jungwoo teases, tickling under the younger's chin. Mark yelps, gives the elder a soft kick to the shins.
"I'm always flirty. What are you on about?" Mark retorts. Jungwoo raises an eyebrow in light disbelief. "I'm a natural." They both laugh.
"Remember that time you tried to use a pick up line? But you were nervous and you said it wrong. You said something like 'have you lost your phone number? Can I have it?' when I'm pretty sure you meant to say that you lost your own phone number so that you could have mine." Jungwoo says, and Mark cringes at the reminder. Jungwoo runs his fingers through the tangles in the younger's hair, loving the way it has his eyelids drooping in satisfaction. "I gave you my phone number anyway because you were adorable. You still are adorable."
"Don't remind me. Please." Mark shoves his face into the crook of Jungwoo's neck to hide his embarrassment.
"We might not be here today if you didn't make that move on me." Jungwoo chuckles. Mark whines something unintelligible, but Jungwoo doesn't ask what he said and drops the subject.
They gaze at the stars for a while longer. Jungwoo has to adjust the duvet again. Mark sits up straight and gasps when he spots something. He stutters, trying to force the words out through his excitement and he fails several attempts at starting a coherent sentence.
"Look!" He claps his hands and wriggles around on the bed, unable to contain himself. "There's a heart! There's literally a heart! The stars are making a heart in the sky!" Mark points out the window.
Sure enough, eleven of the brightest stars form the unmistakeable shape of a heart. Jungwoo beams just as gleefully as his boyfriend and kisses his forehead, his nose and then his lips.
"It must be a sign, baby." Jungwoo replies.
"Do you ever feel like you're in a dream?" Mark asks. The sudden change of topic surprises the elder, and Jungwoo tilts his head like a confused puppy. "Like, what did I do to deserve you? How is this real? You're so amazing, like, how can you be real... you know?" He studies Jungwoo's expression for any sign of mockery as the elder's lips curl into a sweet smile.
"I get you." Jungwoo says. "You're ethereal, too. I guess we're just meant to be." A blush diffuses through Mark's cheeks, which Jungwoo takes the pleasure of tenderly pinching as a display of his affection towards the younger. "Now, why don't we go back to sleep? We both have early classes tomorrow."
"Okay." Mark says through another yawn.
They settle back down, with the smiley face and heart in the sky watching over them.
