"I love you." Mark gazes up at Ten, eyes glinting in the soft glow from the lamp in the corner of the living room, an easy smile gracing his lips. It's always so easy to smile when he's in the presence of his boyfriend.
"I love you more." Ten replies. Mark pouts a little, but a giggle still escapes his lips and his stomach tingles with butterflies. He gave up arguing with his boyfriend over who loves the other more a few years ago.
Wait, not his boyfriend. His fiancé.
Mark admires the silver band around his finger and trails his eyes to his fiancé's matching one, remembering the sweet shopping date they went on to go and buy it, Mark insisting that the elder should have one too. Waking up next to Ten every morning still feels surreal. Spending every evening curled up in his arms on the sofa still feels surreal.
Everything about Ten feels surreal because he's the definition of perfection wrapped up into a man that Mark will soon be able to call his husband.
"I'm gonna kiss you." Ten whispers, setting his glass of wine down on the table to wrap his arms around Mark's waist, pulling him closer to his chest.
"Okay." Mark breathes out. He's sure his pupils are blown wide as he shuffles to straddle the elder's lap, their faces mere centimetres apart.
Their lips tangle together. The taste of wine is sweet, the alcohol turning the edge of their brains to mush and heightening all their senses, their hands on each other leaving burning trails. The couple move in sync, and they're getting really into it when a phone goes off. It's the striking ping of Ten's notifications, then suddenly followed by the twinkly melody Mark has set as his ringtone.
Ten pulls away, lips swollen, and he sighs with a tut.
"Seriously? I thought only horny teenagers in films get cock-blocked like this." He grumbles. Mark rolls off Ten's body and tilts his head in confusion as his fiancé reaches for their phones. They trust each other with access to each others' devices, so Ten opens up both of them, takes a moment to read, then dumps the phones on the sofa next to him, eyes closed and hands rubbing his cheeks with stress.
"What is it?" Mark pipes up, his eyes now wide from curiosity as he pants to catch his breath from their intense make-out.
"I don't even know." Ten mumbles. He pulls his hands down from his face and picks up Mark's phone to pass it to him. The younger studies his facial expression. They've known each other for six years, have been dating for five, lived together for three years and are getting married in just four days. To sum it up, Mark knows Ten incredibly well, so his stupefied expression does not fill him with confidence.
Mark reads the text message. And then he's just as speechless as his partner.
Hi Mark. Ten's been cheating on you. For nearly two years. You know that dance club he goes to? Well, he's not dancing. He's going to see his girl. I would break up with him if I were you. I know you're about to get married and I'm sorry, but I think that's the best thing for you.
He reads it again. And again. His eyebrows dig deeper down his forehead, and he mindlessly rubs his teeth along his bottom lip. He looks at Ten, and Ten's looking back at him.
"They say the same thing. Except the names are switched and they've changed dance club to basketball." Ten speaks slowly. Mark stays silent. "They're claiming that we've been cheating on each other." Mark swallows. He has no idea what to think.
