Chapter 4 ~ The Gig~

Why was Alex acting so weird? He spat out his words really fast. Oh well, better text Nick.

Hey Nick! I was wondering if I could take our offer on that date?

Yeah sure! How about after your gig tonight?

Great. He calls me 'Jules' now. I only let Luke call me that. I sigh and set my phone down on my nightstand. I walk over to my moms trunk and open the lid. I swear, I see a new piece of clothing in there every time I open it. 

I take out a pair of yellow flats with sequences. I find a magenta leather jacket and throw on a white t-shirt with the word 'Believe' embordered on it. I put on some black jean shorts with some teal strips with glitter running down the side. 

I put my hair in a half up and half down. Man, I can't wait for tonight! Remember, key for tonight is to avoid Luke at all costs. I still have like three hours before the show. My dad is taking a nap so I can't drive anywhere. I decide I need to go over the lyrics and rehearse with the guys.

When I walk in there, I see Alex and Reggie talking. I can't help but eavesdrop. "So that's the plan?" Reggie whispered. "I mean, it's the only way. You should've seen the look on his face when Julie said that- oh hey Julie!" Alex stated. I bet I caught him by surprise. "Hi, so what look on who's face now?" I asked. "Oh,  your...BROTHERS face when we poofed in at the Orpheum. Yeah that." Reggie stuttered out. "Oo-kay? We should rehearse." I said walking over to my moms piano. "Yeah, but we need Luke." Reggie said picking up his bass. "N-no we don't?" I spitted out fast. "We kinda do? I mean you two have a duet at the end. You know, where he comes and sits by you an-" I cut Reggie off. "REGGIE I GET IT!" 

With that, Luke poofed in. His face swollen and irritated. "Oh, hey Julie." I looked at him. Maybe he visited his parents? But I have never seen his face to puffed up like that before. "You okay?" I ask. "Yeah, I am fine. Wait- do we have a gig?" I didn't want to answer. I mean, yeah he is my friend but I needed to avoid him. We stayed silent for a few seconds. "SO?" He yelled. "Yeah we do Luke." Alex said sighing. 

I shrugged his shoulders and walked to his guitar. He tried to plug his amp in, but he kept missing the slot. "COME ONNN!!!!" He screamed before chucking the chord at the ground. Usually, it's not that hard. Maybe his vision was blurry from crying? "Bud, you okay?" Reggie said patting his back. "I said I am ok." Luke said coldly before returning to his amp. 

This time, it went in. A sigh of relief flooded out of his mouth. "Alrighty, let's start." Alex chimed in. This whole time, I stayed silent.

-Luke-

Yeah, I should've known. I am to stupid! She is being realistic. I am her bandmate, not boy toy. I mean, I need to let it go. But I can't, only cause..... I don't know. It's my turn to start being realistic. 

I poof up to the treehouse. It is now my safe place to get away too. I just start throwing stuff, releasing all my anger after chucking random things at the walls and ground. 

I am mad, sad, and just frustrated. I keep trying but I can't get over her. I have never had these type of feelings before. Man, this is just too stupid. Crying over a girl? Really Luke? I feel steamy tears explore my face. I am just glad that she has someone. After all this time, we are just friends. Maybe it's good she doesn't feel the same? I mean, if something happened our friendship would crumble. 

After awhile, after letting out all my emotions I poof back to the studio.

-Alex-

The tension in here is RISING!!!!! I mean, this is just horrible. It's me and Reggie's responsibility to mend whatever is happing here. I look over to Reggie, he looks back at me with eyes that say, 'Are we still sticking to the plan?'. I shoot back with a nod. 

Julie is awfully quiet. I mean, I think she actually might like Nick but something is different with Luke? I need to have a talk with her after the gig tonight. "Hey Julie? Can I talk to you after the performance?" I quickly ask her. "Oh, yeah I am not gonna be able too." She mutters. "Why?" Luke asks. "Cause I have a date." She says looking straight into Luke. 

I see him adjust his feet a little bit before looking down. His face just changes into a happy but obvious fake smile. "Oooohhh! Whos the lucky guy? I bet it's Yick!" He says jumping up and down. He continues. " OOhhH!! I am Gick!! Give me a KITH!!!" He says with a girly voice. I think he is trying to impersonate Nick.

"Very funny." Julie says in a plain tone. Luke's face drops before returning to his spot. 

We rehearse for a few hours before we poof out to the cafe where we are preforming. We all wave goodbye before poofing out.

Okay, time to start. REMEMBER JULIE! AVOID HIM! YOU GOT THIS GIRL! 

Luke, stay calm and don't do anything weird. 

Julie starts to sing, playing crisp chords on her piano. After the first verse, the boys poof in. She stands up to go jam out with them.

Hey Alex! Please keep me here. I don't wanna go to Luke.

Ok, this time don't skip me Jules! I wanna party!

Next, Reggie's turn. 

Ayo Reg!!! HELP ME!

As they ease into the chorus, Luke motions Julie to come over to him. Julie takes a quick glance before going back to Alex. The audience seems to notice cause all of them have a confused face, but quickly forgets.

YESS!! YOU ARE DOING GREAT JULES!

Alex and Reggie take a look before poofing out. 

NOOOO WAIT WHY?? THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN! 

oh great. what did the guys do this time. 

It was just Julie and Luke alone on stage. They were distant... I mean DISTANT! Julie was about to fall off the stage. 

Luke took a few steps forward, singing his part of the duet. 

C'MON JULES! DON'T DO THIS TO ME! I will look like an IDIOT!

NOT THE PUPPY EYES- fine. 

They make their way over to each other. Julie can't help but let out a gorgeous smile. 

WHY IS SHE SO CUTE?

Luke shoots back with another one of his famous smiles.

LUCAS PATTERSON STOP!

The songs ends, with their faces inches apart.
