Three days later Rumi found herself in the driveway of the Ball house, nervous as hell and trying to hide it from Melo who was more nervous than her. He clenched and unclenched his fists anxiously and when Rumi noticed she placed her hands on his, hardly covering them, "Melo—"
"This was a bad idea, I don't know why the fuck I said yes to my dad," He garbled out. Rumi pushed down the sad feeling that rose at his words, knowing he was explaining how he felt and it had nothing to do with her.
She spoke softly, "Melo, don't worry. I'm not going to be weird about your mom. It's okay."
He looked over at her with a pained expression, "I just don't want her to feel embarrassed."
A gentle smile graced Rumi's face as she picked her delicate hand up to touch Melo's face. He leaned into her touch, relaxing as she told him, "I got this. Trust me."
He blew out a long sigh and then nodded, before saying, "Wait here."
He jumped out of the car and jogged to her side before opening the door and offering her his hand. She giggled, "Such a gentleman."
Rumi looked down at her outfit and smoothed her clothes. She looked up at Melo with questioning eyes, "Do I look okay?"
Melo thought she looked absolutely ethereal. Her outfit was perfect for meeting his parents and she didn't even know it. She was just being her usual hippie self. Melo had never seen her dressed up, with jewelry and makeup. He had been sneaking glances at her the whole way here, and he was sure to do it at dinner too.
"You look beautiful," he told her as he took her hand, leading her to the front doors. Melo smiled at the girl, feeling his nerves wash away at her confident and peaceful aura. "Ready?" he smiled.
