I Am Here (TWD)

Part 9

As Daryl and Shane beat the metal door with axes, I can hear Carl and Sophia crying as their mothers hold them. I can't let them die like this, not this way, its too soon.

"Y'all should have left well enough alone, its better this way." He says.

"Better for who?" Lori says.

"All of you-- you know whats out there. A short brutal life and agonizing death" he says as I kick his chair away and logged into the system, looking for a way to open the doors.

"Your- your sister what was here name?" Jenner asked.

"Amy." Andrea answers.

"Amy. You know what this does. You've seen it. Is this really what you want for your wife and son?" Jenner asked Rick.

As I find a way to open the door open, I clicked but a window popped up, saying I need authorization, fuck.

"I don't want this." Rick says empathetic.

I give up on the door, I run my fingers through my hair aggressively, I picked up the wine bottle on top of the monitor and threw it at the big screen, it smashes to pieces.

"Open the door! You asshole!" I kicked his chair again.

"Rei!" Rick shouts at me as Adym grabbed me from behind pulling me away from Jenner.

"No, no! We have to stop him! Wait, you're hurting me!" I shouted as my brother covers my mouth.

"We're not making a dent." Shane says.

"Those doors were made to withstand a rocket launcher." Jenner notes as Adym takes his hand off my mouth.

"But your head ain't!" Daryl charges at him with an axe, Rick, Dale, and T pushed him back.

"You do want this." Jenner says surely. "You said, last night, you knew it was just a matter of time before everybody you love was dead."

"You said that? Why would you say that?" I knitted my brows together as Rick can't think of a thing to say.

"What? You really said that, after all your big talk?" Shane asked.

"I had to keep hope alive, didn't I?" Rick defended himself.

"There is no hope, there never was." Jenner says.

"Shut up already." I throw a pencil at him, he sighed as it hit him.

"There is always hope." Rick assured him. "Maybe it won't be you, maybe not here, but somebody, somewhere--"

"What part of 'Everything is gone' do you not understand?" Asked Andrea butts in and I rolled my eyes.

"Listen to your friend, she gets it." Jenner says.

"No, no, she doesn't." I say.

"Rei, leave it alone." Adym tries to hush me but I pushed him away.

"No, your just mad cause your sister died and now your suicidal because of it." I say.

"What?" She scoffed.

"Rei, stop." Lori tells me.

"Everything may be gone, but it is not the end, I want to live because I believe in a future, I believe that its fundamental to let these kids live, even if it is dangerous, because I most definitely will protect what I have, unlike the pathetic ones who decide to take the easy way out cause they are scared!" I looked up and down at Andrea's face, she really doesn't see how stupid she looks when she talks like that.

"This is what takes us down." Jenner says. "This us our extinction event."

"Cut it out with that shit man." Adym says. "There are children here."
