His feet carried him fast, faster than he ever thought they could, but he didn't stop. He wouldn't until he reached his sister. Peter couldn't lose her too.
He had expected the worst, and he was relieved when he saw Susan and Lucy high in a tree, screaming at something below them. However that relief vanished the instant he crested the hill, for what he saw was nearly as bad as he had feared.
While his sisters were safe, high in the tree, Evelyn lay on the ground, blood rushing out of cuts in her head and legs and bite marks on her arms. She was struggling to fight off the oversized grey beast that pinned her down, losing more blood every second and getting more and more tired with each movement. The other wolf prowled around, speaking sarcastically in a low voice, taunting her with words Peter couldn't hear.
"Get off of her!" He cried, running towards the wolves. The one that wasn't pinning Evelyn down circled over to him, sneering at his raised sword.
"Look who it is." He snarled. "The little King, come to save his great love! Oh, how naïve he is. He thinks he can save her, but even if he did, he wouldn't. How pathetically sad."
"What do you mean?" Peter was confused, at the nonsense words falling from the wolfs mouth, but kept his sword raised.
"I wouldn't expect your tiny brain to understand, little hero, now-"
"EVELYN!" Noah screamed as he raced into the clearing, interrupting the wolfs speech as he pushed the other off of his sister, who had not given up in her attempts to fight, but had become so exhausted and weak from blood loss that she could barely move. Not that this had stopped her, though.Noah hauled her up, taking her in his arms as she leaned on him, fading fast now, nearly passed out from the pain and exhaustion, as Aslan caught the wolf under his paw.
"Stay your weapons!" He called to Orieus, who had drawn his sword out as he came to the scene. "This is Peters battle."
"You may think you're a king, but your going to die..." the wolf spat, "LIKE A DOG!" And he leapt.
Susan and Lucy screamed as Peter fell, jumping from the tree to see if their brother was alright. Peter pushed the dead corpse of the animal off of him as he raced over to Evelyn, who had passed out, leaning heavily on Noah's shoulder.
"She needs medical attention, now." Noah told Windbloom. "Get her to the camp as fast as you can!"
"Wait!" Lucy called. "I can help!" She raced forward, drawing out her fireflower juice and pulling off the stopper. A couple of drops fell into Evelyn's mouth, and almost immediately her breathing became less harsh, evening out until she could've been sleeping. Noah slid her into Windblooms arms before she galloped away towards the medical tent."Thank you!" Noah pulled Lucy into a tight hug, thanking her over and over again.
"It's okay." She soothed.
"No, it's not. If it wasn't for you and Peter, she could've died. And I wasn't there to protect her...again."
"Hey," Peter placed a hand on Noah's shoulder. "We can't be there for everyone all the time, and if something happens, there isn't much we can do to prevent it. It was a mistake, and we all make them. They're what make us human." What did he mean by 'again'? Peter wondered
"She told you that, didn't she?" Noah asked, a few tears leaking down his cheeks. "She always tells me to stop being such a blimmin' hero." He laughed. "Maybe..." The boy caught Peters eye and trailed off, looking at Aslan, who turned away from the galloping forms of Orieus, Dulus, and Firestorm who had followed the other, not dead wolf to rescue Edmund. He faced his son and the three Pevensies, catching Noah's eye and smiling warmly. They were both thinking the same thing, and he was glad that his sons overprotective nature was not clouding his judgement."Peter, clean you sword." Aslan invited. When Peter had done so, he kneeled before the lion, who placed his paw on Peters shoulder, dragging him down a bit with the sudden weight of the giant lions front leg.
"Rise, Sir Peter Wolfsbane, Knight of Narnia." Peter beamed as he stood, catching Susan's eye. His heart warmed at the sight of the proud look on her face, but he couldn't help but wish that Evelyn could've seen that moment. The moment he became a knight.
