I could not hear what happened next. All I could do is be in the darkness. The pain in my chest was faint, but still there to remind me.

“You aren’t in heaven.” I heard a voice behind me, and it sounded more like a statement than a question. I whirled around, meeting a hooded guy with scythe. I blinked in utter shock. Here in front of me stood the all time famous Death.

“So you’re Death.” I replied in the same tone, making a statement more than a question in an eerily calm voice. I could see in the dark easily than most humans, so I could see Death’s figure. He took off his hood, and I expected a skeleton staring right at me.

Death was just a normal man. Or teenager, I could say. A little older than I was. Death scowled at me, his hauntingly empty grey-ish blue eyes analyzing me.

“I’m not Death; I’m simply a minion of Death. Death is the skeleton bastard. All his minions dress like him.” The Death-minion explained.

“Then who are you?” I asked.

“Nathan.” Nathan, the minion, replied.

“Nathan. Doesn’t it sound at bit... sweeter than it should be?”

“I once had a life of my own. A very long time ago.”

“Tell me about it.” Nathan paused, letting it sink in.

“Long, long, long, long, looong, loo-”

“I think I get the point.” I interrupted in a scathing cold voice.

“Fine. Long ago there were the 4 Forces, also known as the 4 Dark Ones. I belong to one of the 4 Dark Ones. The 4 Forces consisted of vampires, dark angels, shape-shifters, and the Shadowed.” Nathan paused for an effect. The Shadowed. “In fact, I think they still exist. After the 4Forces, the 9 Originals came, and finally, the Light came. The Light is just angels put to fend off the dark angels. Not long, the Wolf-Benders came, breeding werewolves. Which you are.

Wars erupted because of too many kinds with Gifts. You know that crater in the Earth that was said to cause the extinction of the dinosaurs?” Nathan didn’t let me answer. “That was the the epic (as in HUGE) battle of the millennium. Since of the battle, almost everything died, except all of the 18- it’s time.”

“Time for what?” I asked, feeling afraid. Nathan sent a sad glance at me.

“For you to rise.”

I heard trumpets playing, and I was being carried in a box. Where am I? Is this a phony trick dream?

‘You died, remember?’ I heard Nathan’s voice. It made sense. I was in a coffin, being carried to my grave. Not over my dead body! Oh wait...

The coffin was set down.

“In the death of Ember Megara, the heir of the Fire Kingdom, we have all been moved by her. She has dutifully tried to save the Prince, her father. Please pay your respects to her.” I heard a voice announce.

Why couldn’t I move my body?

You need time to restore your energy.’

Energy, my butt. They’re going to put me 6 feet under, Nathan.

No answer.

I closed my eyes as I heard 486, yes, I counted, voices bid me goodbye and to have a safe afterlife.

“Hey sis, I never really thought this would be the last time I would talk to you. I mean, I imagined myself getting mad at you and leaving to never come back. I still can’t believe that I wasn’t the one to protect you, you were. I guess that’s an instinct for an older sister called Ember.” Inferno said. I heard his words through the hollow coffin. I smiled faintly. Wait, I could move my smiling muscles!
