Dw it's not a death story.
On the ground a scuffed scarf laid lonely without a familiar pink headed dragon slayer who usually has it permanently wrapped around his neck.
Lucy Heartfilia spotted it and felt a shiver run down her spine, making her hair stand on end.
Seeing the scarf unintentionally abandoned made the Celestial Wizard panic about the whereabouts of the owner.
She picked the scarf up gently and shook out the sand-like dirt that had interrupted the peaceful scales that the scarf was made out of.
Lucy secured it around her neck in hopes of it helping her keep her confidence that Natsu is still alive.
She traversed the destroyed buildings and found herself facing a open clearing that was seemingly empty.
Until she spotted a head of pink and heard a passionate yell. There he was, in all his glory... well not quite for he seemed rather torn and defeated with torn clothing and blood dripping from his lips.
Lucy quickly scanned Natsu to see whether or not he was physically okay, that's when she saw his chest. He was heaving with a large gash in his chest, blood rushing down his abdomen and trickling down his white track pants, simultaneously seeping into the fabric.
About 3 meters away was Natsu's opponent. A man that shared similar characteristics to a bird, almost like a large and hideous eagle.
Lucy knew Natsu was too tired to fight and had hardly any magic left from the last three opponents he'd gone up against from the cult.
He was clearly dizzy and exhausted.
"Natsu!" Lucy shouted, jumping in front of the attractive mage.
"Lucy leave, you'll get hurt!" Natsu croaked out, this caused Lucy to take her fighting stance as he collapsed in exhaustion, huffing out words of refusal to her actions."Step back and let me take over Natsu! Just relax!" Lucy yelled with a smirk on her petite face.
"Lucy... please..." Natsu whispered.
Lucy started to launch her self towards the bird man with her legs ready to kick him.
Unbeknownst to her she had transformed into her Aquarius form as she began punching and kicking the enemy with fists covered in a strong boiling water that didn't hurt her because it simply acted similarly to Natsu's fire.
Just like his flames the water didn't harm her, only the opponent and anyone she deemed an enemy.
After a gruelling match the man collapsed in a heap of Loose feathers and 3rd degree burns littered across his body.
Lucy, huffing and puffing with fatigue made her way over to a very injured Natsu."Natsu" she softly spoke, she kneeled down and wrapped his scarf around his neck and placed it in a particular way for it to support his head.
"Luce, I promised I'd protect you, not the other way around, I'm supposed to take care of you." Natsu coughed out with a grimace.
"Yes you did, but that doesn't mean that in return I can't protect you," she spoke thoughtfully, "I will be your shield, your sword... I will be your shelter."
Lucy softly smiled at Natsu as she adjusted her legs under his head to nurse his head.
Natsu in return to her words unravelled his scarf and tucked it around Lucy. She had sustained some serious injuries and had started shivering due to the breeze hitting her bare back as it dripped with blood.
Natsu pulled Lucy gently pulled Lucy from under his head and pulled her into his heaving, injured chest, just above the gash and nursed her head. Her dirtied and bloodied hair sprawled across his arms.
"Look after the scarf will ya? Only the people I love get to wear it, alright?" Natsu chuckled roughly as he kissed her sweaty bloodstained forehead gently and slowly fell unconscious with Lucy not far behind.
Natsu woke up to find himself in a makeshift hospital camp, at least that's what he assumed as he spotted Wendy nursing Gray's injuries as he sat in a chair.
Natsu shifted slightly to feel a warmth beside him, it was Lucy.
He snuggled into Lucy's neck still covered by his scarf and hummed in delight and wavering sleepiness. He felt Lucy shift slightly to accommodate for the new warmth and whispered a soft "I love you Natsu" with half closed eyes.
Natsu feeling content, placed a hand on her stomach lightly to not cause pain and whispered back in a husky but sweet voice "I love you too Luce."
Both feeling tired, comfortable and sore fell into a peaceful slumber.
