Marissa loudly laughed as your story came to an end and even though you didn't think it was that funny, you laughed along with her, or were you laughing at her? Your mind went back to the night before when you mentioned the same story to your girlfriend and she didn't even react, not a single little giggle.
"I'm glad you were free to hang tonight" she spoke as she grabbed a couple fries off her plate. "It's a shame Demi isn't here" and there goes your good mood. "Do you know what's up with her? She's been a right bitch today?"
"She isn't a bitch, Riss" even though you agreed slightly with your girlfriends best friend, that Demi had been a bit of a bitch today, it was still your job to defend her.
"Wrong choice of words. I apologise" you silently grabbed your milkshake and took a sip. "Do you know what's up with her?"
"I haven't a clue. She's been like it since I got here" you sighed as you lowered the milkshake back down onto the table. "I think it has something to do with the technical difficulties that they're having with the tour and everything."
"Well, I hope they sort it out soon because I at least want to have fun with my best friend without her being all snappy."
"Tell me about it" Marissa lightly laughed. You grabbed a couple fries off the plate and dropped them into your mouth, swallowing them down in time for your phone to start vibrating on the table. "Speak of the devil" you grabbed your phone and answered the call. "Hi" you kept your eyes on Marissa who was watching you with slightly furrowed eyebrows.
"Hi? That's all I'm getting. Where the fuck are you?"
"I'm having lunch with Marissa. I asked if you wanted to join and you completely ignored me" Marissa's eyes widened but she looked amused with your tone.
"Well..." she stopped herself and you heard her sigh through the phone, she was pissed and she was trying to calm herself. "What time do you think you'll be back?" you shrugged as you grabbed a fry off the plate and dropped it into your mouth.
"I'm not sure yet. We may have room for dessert" you quietly giggled as Marissa shook her head at you.
"You're evil" she mouthed before focusing on her milkshake.
"Oh, well, I-I guess I'll see you soon then."
"Don't wait up."
"I love you, Y/N" your heart fluttered at the words but you didn't want to cave in too quickly.
"Yeah, you too" you pulled the phone from your ear and hung up, dropping it down onto the table. You grabbed a fry from the plate and then glanced up to meet Marissa's gaze. Her eyebrows were slightly raised, her eyes wide with question. "What?" she pulled from her sharp gaze and glanced down at her plate. "Marissa, why you giving me that look for?" she sighed and glanced back up to meet your gaze.
"Don't you think you were a little harsh?"
"She deserves a taste of her own medicine. She's been treating me like shit since I got here" you shrugged. "I came here to spend time with her and not once have I spent anytime with her. Even at night, she's too occupied with shit to spend any real time with me. We've only kissed once since I got here and that was literally the day I walked through the door and surprised her" Marissa's sharp gaze dropped and she gave me a light smile.
"There's a party tonight on the dancers bus. You wanna come?"
"Sure. I could do with a little fun."
-
Demi pretty much avoided you until after the concert that night which surprised you because of the way you spoke to her on the phone earlier. You half expected her to give you a right earful. You expected an argument so it was a surprise when you didn't get one. The concert was incredible, like it was always was. She never fails to make you proud even when you're slightly mad with her. You locked eyes often throughout the concert but the loving exchange never lasted long.
You smoothed out the material of your dress as you stood in the main backstage bathroom. You checked over your appearance before you headed for the door but you jumped back as it was pushed open and in walked the love of your life.
"What are you wearing?" her eyes roamed along your body.
"A dress?" her eyes rolled and the moment they met yours, your heart broke a little, but you weren't about to back down.
"I-I thought we could spend some time together. Watch a movie or something. Why are you wearing a dress?" she seemed nervous as she kept glancing down at the floor, playing with her fingers, a nervous trait of hers that you've come to love.
"The dancers are having a party. I'm sure you could come?"
"I don't want too" you nodded and slowly headed for the door.
"That's your loss then" you could see her anger building but you couldn't seem to stop yourself from retaliating.
"Why are you being such a bitch?" your eyes widened and your mouth fell open as you turned back to her.
"Why am I being a bitch?" you laughed without humour. "If anyone in this room is a bitch, it's you. We haven't spent any real time together since I got here, and you've treated me like shit. All I wanted was to spend some time with my girlfriend because her life is so fucking crazy that I sometimes have to go weeks without even seeing her" her eyes widened at your loud voice but you were pissed, what should she expect? "I get that you're having some technical issues but that isn't my fault. The last couple shows I've watched have been incredible, nobody would know that there's even any technical issues" you could see her eyes beginning to well with tears but now that you had started, you couldn't stop. "I just wanted to spend some time with you. I wanted to watch you perform and then take you back to the hotel or the tour bus and shower you in love and affection. I wanted to cuddle you to sleep or make you breakfast in the morning. I didn't come here to fight with you, Demi, and I definitely didn't come here to be ignored" she sniffled, her hand coming up to wipe at her cheek.
"I'm sorry" you remained silent, waiting to see if she had anything else to say. "I-I'm just so stressed and I-I'm not making up excuses. I just-I want to make you proud and I just wanted everything to be perfect" your heart ached in your chest.
"Baby, I'm already so proud of you, a little technical issue isn't going to affect how proud I am of you."
"Can you please not go to the party?"
"But I already..."
"Please? We can go back to my bus and cuddle and watch movies" she cut you off, giving you her best puppy dog expression that she knew you couldn't resist. Her eyes twinkled in the light and she knew that she had won.
"Fine" her lips twitched into a wide smile. "But those eyes will only work for so long before the effect wears off."
"I love you. I am so deeply, madly and crazily in love with you" the smile on your face matched Demi's as she skipped to you, her arms locking around your neck.
"I'm madly in love with you too" she giggled as she pressed her forehead to yours and leant in to brush your lips together. "Don't make me regret this, Demi."
"I won't. I promise."
This is going to be an amazing night.
