You glanced up from your phone and sighed, your eyes dancing to the table that now held your cold dinner. The candle in the centre of the table had already burnt out. You pushed yourself away from the counter and began to tidy everything away. Once everything was cleared away, the food stored in the fridge for leftovers, you grabbed your phone and tapped onto Demi's contact ID.
You: What time do you think you'll be home tonight??
You love Demi, you really do, but she's been working on her album and you hadn't spent much time with her over the last few weeks. You don't even know what time she comes home anymore because you're already fast asleep when she does. She's asleep when you leave for work at 7 in the morning and on the weekend when you aren't even at work, she's gone. She's disappeared to the studio to work on her album. You love her, even though sometimes you have to convince yourself of that.
Your phone vibrated in your hand and you jumped from your thoughts. Your heart dropped into your stomach at the contact ID. It wasn't Demi.
Mom: Hi Baby. I hope everything's okay. I was just making sure you and Demi were still on for this weekend?? xx
How do you even reply to that? You haven't seen or had a proper conversation with Demi in weeks. You tapped out many replies until you settled on a simple message.
Me: Everything's good! We'll see you on Saturday ❤️
You headed out of the kitchen, switching off the light as you went. You made sure that the front door and all the windows downstairs were locked before you headed upstairs. You stepped into the en-suite and began to run yourself a bath. You weren't expecting Demi home anytime soon so you may as well just relax.
You sighed, feeling all of your worries slowly melt away as you allowed the warm water to engulf your body. You relaxed back into the tub and closed your eyes. The silence in the room helped a little but the moment you finally felt as if nothing else mattered, you heard the front door slam shut.
"Y/N?" your eyes opened and you stared up at the ceiling for a moment. "Babe?" you made no attempt to move. She can come and find you. "Y/N?" her voice was slowly becoming louder. Your eyes danced to the en-suite door as it was pushed open. Demi stood there with a light smile which grew at the sight of you. You wanted to smile but you couldn't. You haven't seen her in weeks, you thought you'd be elated. "Hi Baby" she stepped further into the room, her beautiful smile still plastered across her face. She leant in to peck your lips but you turned your head so she kissed your cheek instead. She pulled away with furrowed eyebrows. "You okay, Y/N?" she sunk to her knees and watched you as you just stared down at your hands beneath the water.
"We have plans to see my parents on Saturday. You still able to come or will you be too busy with work?" there was an undertone of annoyance in your voice. You still hadn't spoke a greeting.
"I-I don't know. It depends how this week goes in the studio" your lips formed into a tight line as you nodded.
"We've had this planned for weeks."
"Baby, I..."
"If you don't want to come, Demi, just say" you glanced to meet her gaze. Her honey brown irises burnt into yours, her eyes were slightly narrowed. "Ever since we got engaged, you've been hiding in the studio" honesty is the best policy, right?
"I'm working on my album, Y/N. I'm trying to get it released and the quicker that I do, the more time we'll have to spend on planning our wedding. I'm doing this for us."
"No, Demi. I-I don't care about how long it takes to plan our wedding. I don't want to spend weeks away from you."
"It hasn't been weeks, stop exaggerating" she rolled her eyes as she pushed herself to stand and she headed for the counter. You watched in silence as she grabbed out a wipe and began to remove her makeup. You nibbled on your lower lip as you tried not to blow up on her like you wanted too.
"I had a date night planned for us tonight, but it was a complete waste. I've planned so many over the last 2 weeks. I don't even know why I bother anymore because you're far too busy to come home to your fiancé" she glanced back at you, her mouth hanging open. "You can say that you haven't, Demi, but you have. You've been spending so much time away from me. I can't-I can't even remember the last time that we properly kissed" you watched her as she nibbled on her lower lip and glanced down at the floor. "All I want is to spend time with you, and I get that you're busy at the studio but is coming home at a reasonable time so that we can spend a couple hours together, is that too much to ask for?"
"I-I just wanted to get this finished so we could focus on our wedding" you could see her eyes beginning to well with tears. Your heart began to ache at the sight of them.
"And I wanted to spend the last couple weeks with you. I-I wanted to celebrate our engagement together."
"I'm sorry."
"Is the album nearly finished?" you glanced down at your hands as you played with your fingers.
"I-It's nearly finished."
"So once it's finished, it'll be released and then you'll have to tour which will take you away from me for another couple months."
"This is my job, Y/N. You knew this was my job when you agreed to be with me, even when you agreed to marry me. You knew that this was my job, Y/N, so don't even make out that you didn't" she turned back to the counter, your eyes remaining locked on your hands. You were trying to think of a reply. "I'm going to release this album and then I'm going to have to tour, but that doesn't mean I don't want to marry you. I don't plan on releasing this album next month. I don't plan to release this album until at least November, that's 3 months of just us getting to spend time together. I wasn't forgetting about you, Y/N. I was trying to give us some quality time together, like a two week trip away to Bora Bora for your birthday" she pushed herself away from the counter and disappeared from the room, leaving you with your thoughts.
You don't know how much later it was but you eventually climbed out of the bath and wrapped your towel around you. Demi was sat on the bed as you stepped from the en-suite. She glanced up at you, her eyes burning into yours, your heart sunk into your stomach at the tears rolling down her cheeks.
"I'm sorry. I-I just want to spend time with you. I want us to celebrate our engagement, we haven't celebrated since you proposed, we haven't done anything because you've been in the studio constantly" your own eyes welled with tears. "I just want you to come home at a decent time so we can have dinner together or watch a movie and cuddle on the couch. I love you, Demi, and all I want is to spend time with you" you lowered yourself down onto the bed, keeping your towel wrapped around yourself.
"I promise that I'll come home earlier. I promise that I won't ever forget about us" she crawled over to you. "I love you so much."
"What are you doing?" her lips twitched up into a smirk as her fingers slowly undid your towel.
"Seeing you in the bath made me all excited. It took everything I had not to join you" you giggled as she leant into you and began to nibble on your sweet spot, instantly making you crave her.
