Y/N

As I walked along the sidewalk, enjoying the summer sun as I sipped on my iced coffee from Starbucks, I noticed the girl who lived next door, struggling with her grocery bags.

"Hey" she jumped about a foot in the air causing me to lightly giggle as her eyes looked up to lock with mine. "You need a hand at all?" I pointed down to the grocery bags.

"Erm..." she seemed to stumble over her words and I smiled at the fact that she seemed to be blushing.

"I'm Y/N."

"I-I know" she just seemed to blush harder causing the smile on my face to widen. "I-I'm Demi."

"It's nice to meet you. You settled in okay?" she nodded and I held my hand out for her to pass me some bags.

"I-I've never lived away from my parents before so it-it's been a bit of a struggle" I took the bags from her and sent her a smile and a nod in understanding.

"The first time I moved away from home was for college and I really struggled with that. You close with your family?" I followed her up towards her front door, one hand carrying a couple bags, the other holding my iced coffee.

"Yeah, I'd say we're pretty close. There's 5 of us so there's always something crazy going on" I followed her into the house and I smiled at the sight of a little black dog sat patiently waiting for Demi. "Hi, Baby Boy" she cooed as the dog stood, his tail eagerly wagging.

"Who's this cutie?"

"That's Batman, he's my little best friend" a sadness seemed to bubble around her but she quickly pushed it away. "The kitchens just through here" I followed her into the open kitchen and smiled at how homely it all felt.

"Your house is gorgeous."

"Thanks. It still doesn't feel like home yet" I lifted the bags onto the island counter and smiled over at her as she began to unpack the bags she brought in.

"My house didn't feel like home until I'd been living there for at least 6 months" I lightly chuckled causing Demi to smile up at me, the sight just made my smile widen. "Where did you move from? Is it far away?"

"I moved from Fallbrook. I'm originally from Texas though."

"Really? You don't have an accent?"

"I can turn it on pretty quickly" she spoke in a southern drool that actually made my stomach clench. She giggled and my heart just did a flip. "I lived in Texas until I was 12, then my stepdad got transferred and I've lived in Fallbrook ever since" she focused on a packet of Oreos that she grabbed from one of the grocery bags.

"You moved state at 12? I bet it was hard leaving your friends and school behind?" she shrugged.

"I didn't have many friends in Texas, and I was kind of bullied in school so leaving was pretty easy" my heart suddenly ached for this girl.

"How was Fallbrook?"

"Better than Texas but I still only had one true friend" again that sadness seemed to wrap around her.

It fell silent around us for a moment until Demi released a breath and went back to unpacking her groceries. I watched her as she fluttered around her kitchen, every so often taking a sip of my iced coffee.

The only thing I can think of is that I want to learn more about this girl. I want to spend so much more time with her.

Batman, probably the cutest dog in the world, sauntered into the kitchen and straight towards the dog bed in the corner. He stretched, he yawned and he walked around in a circle before curling up on the bed.

"Your dog is seriously adorable" Demi glanced back at me with a smile, her eyes momentarily dancing to Batman.

"Thanks."

"How old is he?"

"He's 6 months. My-My best friend brought him for me."

"Wow, that's a good friend. I don't think mine would buy me a dog" I lightly joked.

"He-He had cancer. Stage 4."

"Shit. I-I'm sorry" she shook her head and gave me a small smile, my heart aching as her eyes welled up with tears.

"He brought him me as a way to sort of remember him by. That's why Batman's my little buddy" she sniffled, wiping at her cheeks and turning to grab a glass from the cupboard. "He died a month ago. That's why I had to get out of Fallbrook. Everywhere I looked, all I really saw was everything we did together, and everything we wouldn't get to do together. We dated at one point which was a huge ass mistake" she lightly giggled but there were still tears pouring down her cheeks.

"So, are-are you straight?" I can't believe I just asked that.

"Why? Are you interested?" the smirk spread across her face had me weak in the knees.

"Well, you are very pretty" she laughed loudly and I swear the sound had my heart pounding. I have never heard a laugh so uniquely beautiful. She only seemed to laugh louder as my cheeks burnt.

"Well, you're very pretty too, and I've never actually dated a girl but I wouldn't be opposed" my mouth tugged.

"It's a date then. I'll pick you up at 7" I grabbed my iced coffee off the counter and smirked over at her.

"How do you know I don't have plans?"

"Alright, what plans you got?" she lightly blushed.

"I'll see you at 7. How do you want me to dress?"

"Casual" I sent her a wink before turning and leaving, biting down into my lower lip as I began back home. My cheeks were burning as I walked around to my house, excitement bubbling away in my stomach.

This is going to be a good date.
