This is inspired by the DWTD trailer 🥺😭
You had known Demi for almost your entire life. You were best friends. For you, she was your soulmate. The only person beside yourself that knew of your feelings, was Dallas. You were close with the entire family, and Dallas was very much your older sister. You could go to her for everything, she didn't always give the best advice but she very much tried. She was a good listener. You never found the courage to tell Demi your feelings. You never thought she would feel the same way. You could only ever hope that one day you would.
You had the most amazing start to the year, spending it in Bora Bora with some of your closest friends. Demi, of course, was one of them. Yours and Demi's friend circle was very much the same. Because you spent so much time with Demi, you had gotten to know her friends and they had become yours. You were all so close, especially you, Demi, Matthew and Sirah. You did almost everything together. After the most amazing vacation ever, you had to face reality, and you had to go home for work.
You didn't see Demi as often once you got back to LA, she spent the majority of her time rehearsing for her tour. You were so insanely proud of her, but you always missed her. You messaged each other almost everyday and FaceTimed as much as her schedule allowed it. It was hard on you when she left for tour, like it always is. You always spent the day before she left together. You usually just had a girls day, watching movies and eating takeout, this year was no different.
You went to a couple of her shows and watching her on stage, made you love her that much more. You attended the last show of the American leg and it's safe to say that watching her grind on Kehlani, made your chest tighten with jealousy.
Would you ever find the courage to tell Demi your feelings?
You noticed a change in Demi once she returned from the American leg of the tour. She started to spend her time with other people and you felt like you didn't get to see her often. She rescheduled her South American tour dates, her reason of production issues didn't sit right with you. It wasn't until you spoke your concerns to Dallas that she mentioned Demi firing Phil. You couldn't understand why and you started to not feel like Demi's best friend anymore. She was starting to ignore your messages and you no longer seemed to FaceTime.
Your 26th birthday rolled around in May and you were surprised when Demi turned up on your doorstep. She was wearing her signature smile and even though you were angry at her for ignoring you, your heart melted at the sight of her.
"Hi. Can I come in?" her voice was just as sweet as you remember but there was a huskiness about it. Her head cocked to the side and she nibbled lightly on her lower lip. "I brought cake" her lips formed a pout as she held a box out towards you.
"Why should I? You've been ignoring me for weeks" the pout on her face fell and she glanced down for a moment.
"I'm sorry. I-I don't really have an excuse" you leant against the door as you watched her, trying to decide whether to let her in. "Can you please forgive me?" no matter how much you wanted too, you couldn't resist her pout and puppy eyes.
"Fine" her lips erupted into her wide smile once again. "That better be red velvet?" she nodded with a giggle and your heart thumped rapidly at the sound. No matter what happens between you both, you can never seem to forget your feelings for her.
You spent the morning of your birthday together and it was like old times, but there was something off about Demi. You just couldn't seem to put your finger on what it was.
The weeks after your birthday, everything returned to normal. You and Demi messaged everyday, FaceTiming when you could. It was like those last couple of weeks never happened. There were rumours flying around that Demi had relapsed but you didn't want to believe them. You didn't want to believe that the girl you loved was slowly losing control of her life again. You had been there the first time, you had been there for her through everything and if she had lost control, you didn't plan to leave her. You were going to be there for her once again.
Demi left for the UK and European leg of the Tell Me You Love Me Tour at the end of May. You held her so much tighter than you did before she left for the American leg. You had a strange feeling in your tummy, a feeling that was very unsettling. You couldn't shift it and even though you kept into contact with her, you felt like something was seriously off.
The release of 'Sober' broke you. You had never heard the song and the video held a very short clip of the both of you together. You cried for days. You felt like a failure. Your very best friend, your soulmate was struggling and you didn't know how to help. She continued to pretend like nothing was wrong, pretending to act as if she had already got the help, like her song had said.
You started to spend a lot of time with her family, all of which shared your same concern, but when you tried to raise that concern with Demi, she just laughed it off, stating that she had everything under control.
You wanted to fly out to see her when she announced that she had cancelled the London show, but due to work, you couldn't. You spoke to her on the phone and her voice broke your heart. All you wanted to do was head to London and give her cuddles, even as friends, you both loved to cuddle. There was so many nights that you would spend cuddled up together.
Demi rapidly spiralled out of control when she got home and she went back to completely ignoring your messages. There were photos of her all over TMZ on nights out with friends. Matthew and Sirah's contact with Demi was slowly decreasing. She was pulling herself away from everyone who was concerned and no matter how much you tried, your attempts and her families all went unanswered. She didn't seem to care.
You were at Demi's parents when the news broke out on TMZ.
Demi Lovato rushed to hospital after a suspected 'drug overdose.'
Your heart plummeted into your stomach and you prayed for it not to be true but there was a recording that confirmed it all.
Who is sick enough to post this?
You had tears pouring down your cheeks as Dianna's phone rang from where it sat in her hand. The first question that slipped from Dallas' mouth as Dianna spoke on the phone was 'is she alive?' The words echoed around in your head and you started to feel sick. Your hand clutched at your tummy as you leant forward, choking heavily on a sob. Dallas' arms locked around you and then they were guiding you out towards the car.
Everything from that moment was in slow motion. You had never seen Demi look so fragile. You had never felt so broken.
