it's all a coincidence, right?

Yoongi thought he'd cried all his tears years ago, but as he stared at his phone screen, reading the blunt, curt, stoic messages Hoseok was sending him, he knew he was mistaken.

All the memories seemed to resurface in him, memories he'd buried deep inside him, ones he wished he could just forget. Alas, the world had a different purpose for Yoongi, indulging in the pleasures of Yoongi's pain, intensifying it tenfold with every second that passed. Yoongi didn't know what he had done in his past life to deserve what he was going through, but he knew one thing.

It hurt so fucking much.

He thought his pain would go away if Hoseok came back. Yoongi had been holding onto that thought ever since the day Hoseok stepped out of his life. And yet, all he could feel were the cosmos laughing at him for his naivety interlaced with stupidity, chiding at him for believing such nonsensical thoughts.

The fact of the matter was, three years had gone by.

Three long, arduous years had gone by. It makes sense that Hoseok wouldn't be the same person he was three years ago. Yoongi knew nothing of Hoseok's whereabouts, how he'd fared these past three years. All he knew is that from one day to the next, he'd appeared out of nowhere.

Why would Hoseok even try to contact him now?

There was no plausible reason for Hoseok to try to come back if that's what he was even planning on doing. It's just...everything felt so random, and Yoongi didn't know why. Yeah, Hoseok had fucked up and liked one of his tweets, but he'd also responded to Yoongi after years (that and his flurry of sudden texts).

"Yoongi?"

A soft voice snapped Yoongi out of his thoughts. Looking up, he noticed Jungkook lingering in the doorway, a worried expression on his face. Yoongi smiled wanly at him, gesturing him to come in, to which the younger took, walking in before closing the door.

"I wanted to check in on you," Jungkook said, offering Yoongi a small smile. "How you feelin'?"

"Like shit," Yoongi admitted, clutching his phone tightly. "Someone should take my phone away from me honestly."

Jungkook's ears perked up. "I can yeet it out the window for you if ya want. Heard it's very therapeutic."

Yoongi cracked a smile at Jungkook's offer. "A fine offer but I can't just delete myself off technology."

"I mean, anything's possible through the power of yeeting," Jungkook responded rather cheerfully. "Free therapy and your problems disappear."

Yoongi knew that Jungkook was only trying to lighten up the mood, something he was glad for. He wasn't sure what to expect when he noticed two strangers appearing among Jimin and Seokjin. Jimin's husband (at least how Jimin referred to him as), Namjoon, Yoongi recognized because he had talked to him on the phone. Jungkook, he recognized because of all the pictures Seokjin had of him.

Jungkook was very eccentric, both in text and in person. Still, having someone as lighthearted as him in a situation like this was very refreshing and honestly, Yoongi needed a bit of a distraction after having such a disastrous conversation.

"He texted you, didn't he?" Jungkook asked, gently prying the phone off Yoongi. "Hoseok."

"Yeah," Yoongi put up no fight as Jungkook put the phone far away from him. "He tried apologizing and then he kind of just I don't know— I don't get him."

"I mean it would be weird as fuck if ya actually connected," Jungkook answered. "Y'all aren't in the same wavelength anymore. Both of y'all changed. Hoseok's always been a weirdo when it comes to confrontation."
