another written chapter, cuz i'm built extra different 😼
"Ya know, Yoongi seems a tiny bit off."
Seokjin turned towards Jungkook, watching the frown on his face. Jungkook said nothing more, gesturing at Yoongi, who only stared glumly at the television, fingers mindlessly going through every available movie.
"He's usually sad," Seokjin responded, gazing at Yoongi more. "What do you think's off about him?"
Jungkook shrugged. "Past couple of day, he been quiet as hell. Only stares sadly everywhere. Is like someone kicked a puppy. Yoongi's the puppy in the equation."
"I gathered that, but why would Yoongi be in a bad mood?" Seokjin murmured.
"Ye, I'm not his close friend or anything but I'm telling ya, some's off," Jungkook frowned. "I'm gon' ask him what's wrong."
Without waiting for a response, Jungkook walked towards Yoongi. Seokjin sighed, rubbing his temple with his finger, and stared at the interaction between the two. Yoongi looked surprised at Jungkook approaching, and Seokjin noticed that he quickly began shaking his head, but Seokjin could tell Jungkook had been right as he saw Yoongi's eyes gloss over, almost as if he wanted to burst into tears.
There was a small tap on his shoulder. Seokjin turned, noticing Taehyung's observant gaze on Jungkook and Yoongi before they flashed towards him.
"Do you know why he's like that?" Seokjin asked. "Yoongi looks like he's hardly holding it together."
"Uh, not that I'm aware of." Taehyung scratched the back of his head. "I mean, he's been distant with me these past couple of days. Avoiding my gaze or whatnot. I did find that very weird."
"Yeah," Seokjin agreed, raising an eyebrow. "What did you do?"
Taehyung lifted his arms up in surrender. "I breathed."
"Come on," Seokjin rolled his eyes. "There has to be a reason why Yoongi's not speaking to you. He's relying on Jungkook for fuck's sake. Look at them. Even I feel bad."
"I honestly have no clue," Taehyung repeated, grabbing his keys. "I'll be back in a couple of hours."
Seokjin crossed his arms suspiciously. "Where are you going?"
"Out."
Wow, that's not suspicious at all, Seokjin thought sarcastically, only nodding in return. Taehyung flashed a smile, before officially leaving the house. Seokjin sighed, shaking his head. He had no idea what was going on, but he did know one thing.
Whatever was going on, the result of it was going to blow in everyone's faces.
🏃♂️
"I think Yoongi knows you're back."
Hoseok almost choked on his coffee, eyes widening into saucers at Taehyung's nonchalant statement.
"What do you mean you think?" Hoseok asked immediately. "Did he see me or something? He hasn't sent anything at all."
"Well, he's been avoiding me recently," Taehyung responded. "I'm ninety-five percent sure he saw me with you. You know how Yoongi is, worrying over us. He could have followed me when I went to meet you."
Hoseok shook his head. "There's no way that he did that. He doesn't stalk."
"I don't know sir, but he's never avoided me like this," Taehyung affirmed. "It's very worrying. I can't just be like, 'Hey Yoongi, did you see something you weren't supposed to see? More specifically, someone?' Yoongi would literally not answer me."
Yoongi was never the confrontational type, Hoseok thought. I'm not surprised it hasn't changed.
But could Yoongi already know that Hoseok was waltzing around the city? He had made sure that he only went out for essentials. Mask on, cap hiding his dyed hair, Hoseok was sure that he wasn't going to be noticed anytime soon. Not even Namjoon and Jungkook knew that he was here. They had sent him messages promising to be back in Gwangju by the end of the week, but he didn't have it in him to say that they didn't have to worry about him.
He knew he had been asking a lot by having Taehyung be the only person to know that he was here. Taehyung owed him nothing, yet he happily agreed to keep him company. IF anything, it made Hoseok realize how much he missed his friends from back home. he never once thought about it, not when he had met Namjoon and Jungkook, but now that he was by himself, it felt as if Taehyung was the only person he had.
If Yoongi knew for sure Hoseok was back...well Hoseok didn't even know how he was going to proceed with that.
It was the reason why he was hiding. He didn't know what he wanted to do, what he was planning on doing, and how that would change anything. It had been three long years, and yeah, Yoongi needed an apology, but he'd already tried speaking to Yoongi, and it never worked out.
It was almost as if they were a bickering older couple.
In ways they were. Hoseok and Yoongi still hadn't let go of each other, and it had been years. By now, it should have been clear that they were going their separate ways. Nevertheless, they were still always finding their way back to each other— mostly through Hoseok, who had decided to make that account to keep tabs on Yoongi.
In some twisted way, was that Hoseok's sign that he wouldn't find anyone else?
It's not like Hoseok hadn't gone on dates with other people. He just never found a connection with them, and no matter how hard he tried, his mind would always drift back to Yoongi. At the end of the day, it was always Yoongi. It was always him.
Hoseok hated that.
Why did it have to be Yoongi?
Yoongi didn't deserve someone like Hoseok. Hoseok was a shitty person— and he knew he'd be lying if he said he wasn't, but Yoongi always seemed to want him. Yoongi had always been patient with Hoseok, every step of the way, even as the days approached the wedding. Yoongi had always been there, even when he didn't have to. Yet, every time that Yoongi would tell Hoseok 'I love you', murmur those sweet nothings, Hoseok could never muster up to say the words back and mean them.
Every single 'I love you' that came out of Hoseok's mouth had always felt like a lie.
He'd never felt the fairy tale emotions and sparks that one was supposed to feel in a relationship. He felt something like that when he'd first started talking to Yoongi— the sense of not knowing where things would lead— the excitement. But somewhere along the way, it faded, and all Hoseok could think was wanting to run away.
"Hoseok, you're crying."
Hoseok blinked at Taehyung's words. Wordlessly, he wiped his fingers against his cheek, breath drawing at the feel of saltine tears running down. He hadn't even realized he was crying until Taehyung pointed it out, but now that he knew, he couldn't help but cry even more. As Taehyung wrapped his arms around Hoseok, the tears fell relentlessly, surprising Hoseok even more.
Never once had he cried the way he was doing now, especially not in front of other people.
But as he cried into Taehyung's chest, all Hoseok could think about was Yoongi, and how much he wished it was Yoongi comforting him, instead of Taehyung.
