Chapter Seven- Masks and fog

*Halloween 2003*

Running in through the front door, I could hardly conceal my excitement of being invited too one of the most amazing Halloween parties ever! Thanks to Loz of course. Lauren knew all the coolest people and was always invited to the best places and now we were too!

"Hmm," The sound of crinkled paper beneath my foot caught my attention! My purple and black glittery bag slung over my shoulder; was unzipped and something must of fell out. I glanced down to see a black lined piece of paper and knew instantly it didn't belong to me. I reached down to pick up the paper and noticed there was green writing on the paper and so I unwrinkled the paper and read the words that were sprawled on the paper "Enjoy your Halloween bitches I know I will, see ya later- Your worst nightmare" My heart thumped hard and I knelt down trying to re-catch my breath "Who the hell would right this?!" I heard behind me and felt the paper slip from my fingers and jumped up, my heart beating even faster and see Lauren in front of me, white tank top and hair curling down her shoulders a faint smirk on her face and I went to grab back the paper "I don't know!" I said and she laughed a sarcastic laugh out loud "It was me, Happy Halloween bitch" she said and nudged my arm and my stomach dropped "Why?" I said and Lauren had already kicked off her flip flops and was walking up the stairs hair drooping behind her back "I did it too all the girls, don't be so sensitive Chloe" she said and laughed.

I followed her upstairs and she grinned when I reached my bedroom "You know you really need to update your room, it looks like a three year old lives in it" she muttered and I grimaced "I know, just my mum-" I started and Lauren put her hand on my shoulder "I know, she isn't exactly made of money, but I will help you!" she said and I felt embarrassed but grateful! "Thank you! really? you won't tell the others, its just-" and she cut me off again "It'll be our secret" she said and grinned and then she seemed to ping straight back to being her again "Right! get ready and we will all meet Loggies, ready to go to Aarons!" she said and I grinned "Ok see you at 5!" I bounced and as she swanned out the door in her denim mini shorts she spun around her hair whipping her face "And don't be late, we have a reputation to uphold" she said and blew me a kiss then I heard her head downstairs and the door slam. 

My mum was working late so I went into her wardrobe and took out my outfit, a long black dress covered in neon pink and green gems, this year I was a alternative witch! I put on the dress and because I was so small it covered my feet so I had to roughly cut it and then I used the excess that I cut as bows as pigtails in my hair. I then smeared neon green and neon pink make up on my eyes, cheeks and lips and hooked in long neon green burger earrings, I put my little neon pink wedges on and grinned "Done!" I was ready an hour and a half early so I made myself some microwave pizza, I leaned on the counter and waited for the ding of the microwave to sound out, but as I was waiting, I heard my front door slam. "Mum?!" I shouted but got no answer "Mum?!" I tried again as I heard footsteps up the stairs and I wandered into the hallway to see if I could see my Mum "MUM!!" I shouted and nothing so I walked up stairs to my room. I couldn't help but feel like someone was watching me and as I spun around I thought I caught a glimpse of someone in a mask moving past my bedroom door but I knew I must of imagined it due to my paranoia. 

After checking the house out, calming myself down and having my pizza I wiped off the excess tomato sauce from my lips and wandered out the front door. I loved Halloween the smell of smoke and costumes and sweets in the air, hearing rustles and seeing kids knocking on doors "TRICK OR TREAT!!!!!" sounding out all over the place and the wind whipping my hair back. I walked towards Loggies park and I heard Lauren talking behind the tall hedges that encased the park "SHUT UP! DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO! I have been suffering for long enough!" she whispered loudly and my stomach flipped, a secret of Lauren's? We never knew any! she knew everything about us, but we knew nothing!"

I stood by the hedge, carefully trying not to make a sound whilst I listened in on Loz's conversation when I heard tears in her eyes "I wont let her ruin my life again! she will get what she deserves!!" and then a tap on my arm made me jump and I swung round to see Jade standing there "What are you doing?" she said loudly and I put a finger up to my mouth, but we heard running and a gate slam and I instantly panicked "I was listening, never mind, did she hear us?!" I said and Jade looked at me confused, her hair perfectly straight, her eyes shining grey from her contacts, blood dripping down her face, fake obviously, her Dracula cape coming past her grey lacey top and her black jeans, the lamppost light making her black dolly shoes glitter. "Don't worry, I was listening!" I said walking hastily round the side of the hedges to the red gate, Jade following me "Listening to what?" She said and I turned around "Lauren, She's keeping something from us!" I said and then there was a laugh behind us and Jade spun around to face the same direction as me and we see someone coming in from the shadows by the side of the hedged alleyway by the park "When does she not keep things from us?" 

Dani walked up and we sighed with relief "Dan!" Jade said and breathed out. Dani was wearing her gothic baby doll outfit, black lines down her face, black lipstick, strawberry blonde hair curling by her face in wringlets, natural wringlets. Her green eyes shimmering with amusement "I honestly don't understand why you two are so surprised!" she said hugging us both and then Jess came in behind her, dressed as a dead school girl, her blonde hair in plats "Hey guys" she said lightly.

We all entered the park and looked around, but no one was in the park. We all sat over on the wooden bench by the gate waiting. The darkness seemed to engulf us, the stars twinkling and Jade looked at her watch "If she was here, where has she gone?" we all just sat waiting until we heard the crack of a branch behind us and we all jumped up "What was that!?" I asked and Dani walked in front of the bench toward the wooded area of the park "Nothing Clo, just a fox or something" She said but before any of us could speak someone came running from the wooded area, something glinting in the moonlight and we all screamed and ran towards the gate. 

At the gate Lauren was standing there looking annoyed "Sorry I'm late" she said her white angel costume glittering in the lamppost, gems covering her face "My mum got me the wrong costume, silly woman." She said again and we all breathed and realized the noise behind us had stopped, when we looked behind there was nothing but a note on the floor "What's that?!" Lauren asked and walked forward and snatched it up, opened it out and read "Eventually I will take you down, one by one. You will pay- Your worst nightmare" her voice shook at the end as she looked up and we all shivered "But, that wasn't you?" I asked thinking back to the signature on the note from before and Lauren's face dropped "None of them were." she said low and I gasped "Then who?" and we heard running behind us, when we turned to look, no one was there, an autumn leaf scratched against the floor, floating in the wind.
