CHAPTER TWO • BEST FRIENDS
"hello, kana-senpai!" goshiki greeted, as the girl made her way inside the gyms.
the volleyball club was almost finished with their practice when the girl came. coach washijo who was watching the boys immediately turned his head towards the female, sighing before patting the seat next to him on the bench.
it wasn't like she was a manager of the club, she actually wasn't. she just always went to the gyms to have a chat with the coach, and of course to annoy shirabu kenjiro— her favourite time of the day. her grandfather and coach washijo were best friends, and before he died, he told the coach to look after the girl.
kana's parents were separated, and it didn't seem like her mother knew how to actually express her emotions or love towards the girl which left her to coach washijo whom she always chatted with even in her toddler years. she always tagged along with her grandfather when he and the mentioned coach would hang out and drink coffee together, or whenever they visited one another. and so, coach washijo himself treated kana as if she was his own granddaughter.
"hi, pops," kana said, grinning at the old male who nodded at her. "is the team doing alright?"
"goshiki doesn't swing his arm the way i want him to," the coach said, making the mentioned male flinch on his spot after overhearing their conversation.
the whole team kept cleaning the gym, ready to wrap up the practice. the third years were talking amongst themselves, probably about an upcoming test and how they should manage their time and balance it between volleyball and academics.
on the side, however, shirabu kept his eyes on the girl and the coach as he was mopping the floor. kawanishi who was right beside him smirking slightly to himself as he held back the urge to tell the second year setter that he was mopping the same spot over and over again.
"shirabu?" called kawanishi, so the copper haired male widened his eyes after realizing that he was staring.
"yes?" he asked, now moving from his spot so kawanishi followed him while also holding a mop.
"you were staring at your girlfriend-"
"she's not my girlfriend. why does everybody keep saying that? it's annoying," he said, cutting off the other male who just shrugged.
"i don't know, because you act like a couple or something," kawanishi said, making shirabu choke on his own saliva.
"hardly," he replied, "she just likes to provoke and annoy me."
