years later...

"I can't believe you," the voice of a man muttered, a frown etched across his face as he looked at the red haired woman in front of him. "Did you seriously tell her to do that?"

"What? What's wrong with it?" the female replied, her brows now stitching together as she looked at the male.

They looked like they were about to get into an argument, perhaps they were. After years of being married, Shirabu Kenjiro and Sashihara Kana had one child— Kumi, who is already on her first year of high school. They just drove the young girl to her school, Shiratorizawa— the same school that the married couple graduated from— and they started arguing about Kana's advice to their only child.

"You just told Kumi to be kind to everyone," Kenjiro said, furrowing his brows as he refused to drive away just yet.

"Well? That's only proper. She should be kind to everyone or they will not be as kind to her. Kumi is a sweet girl," Kana explained, raising a brow at her husband. "What's wrong with telling her to be a decent human being?"

She saw how frustrated Kenjiro was, and she didn't know what he was on about. It was only proper that their child should grow up as a polite and kind individual, because that's how she will be able to survive. So why did her husband disagree to that?

"You should've told her to curse at people who make her uncomfortable. You should've told her to stay away from boys. She's so young, what if they take advantage of her kindness?" The male replied, looking at the gates of the school with worry plastered across her face. "What if some random boy falls in love with her, she doesn't deserve to get her heart broken so early."

Kana stopped and covered her lips to mask her giggles. So that was what Kenjiro was worried about. He was afraid that someone would fall in love with their child and that she may get her heart broken, so he wanted Kumi to scold anyone who comes near her. He wanted her to stay away from boys and from people who make her uncomfortable.

It was no doubt that Kumi was a daddy's girl. Perhaps she had always been with Kenjiro, sometimes even visiting the hospital because she said she wanted to be a doctor like her father. The man probably loved her daughter a lot, too, that he wanted only the best for her. Kana understood that point.

"Darling, she won't be able to make friends if you tell her to stay away from other people. She'd be all alone if she can't make any friends." Kana explained, a hand caressing her husband's shoulder. "We were best friends during our first year, too, right?"
