CHAPTER FIFTEEN • TALK

∆∆∆

sigh. shirabu kenjiro could only sigh as semi eita and tendou satori cornered him in his own dorm room. when he thought that it was going to be a very pleasant and peaceful day, he was surprised to see the two barging in and demanding to talk to him.

"what's your problem? i was about to review my notes. if this isn't important, then—"

"we just want to have a talk with you, shirabu," semi cut off the copper haired male, making him furrow his brows and fold his arms across his chest. "about kana."

as much as he wanted to snap at them and tell them to leave, he still held respect for the older guys. after all, as stated, they were his seniors. he cannot just lash out at them and tell them to get out, just because he did not want where the conversation was going.

not that the conversation has already started, anyway.

"what about her? did something happen to kana?" shirabu asked, sitting on his bed. his seniors then sat down on the carpeted floor, not really knowing where else to sit since they did not want to invade his privacy any further.

"no, not really," it was tendou who answered this time around, "but i do feel like you already have a clue on what's going on. i know you're smart, i know you already know what we're talking about."

and for the nth time that evening, shirabu once more sighed. he could not lie, he did know what they were about to tell him. of course, the topic was inevitable. he had ignored that topic for so long, they had ignored that for so long— but he knew deep down that sooner or later, the topic of his friendship with kana will sooner eat them back up.

"you see, i think of her as my younger sister," tendou continued, making semi clear his throat. the action caught the attention of both tendou and shirabu, confused on why the other third year did that.

"i do see why you think so." semi joked, referring to the red hair that both tendou and kana had. "kidding aside, long story short, we don't want any of you to get hurt. i know how close you two have become and i know that there is something going on between the two of you which is stronger than friendship—"

"but we are just friends. best friends, if i were to refer to what she often calls me." shirabu but semi off, his heart starting to beat a lot faster somehow.

why did it suddenly pain him to say those words? why did it pain him when he himself was the one who rubbed it in kana's face that they were but friends? why did it feel like being best friends wasn't enough? he shrugged off the thought of wanting to be something more with the girl he called his closest friend.

did something happen along the way that he did not notice?

"but do you want to stay like that with her?" tendou asked this time, "do you only want to remain as best friends with her? because if that is so, i think you should stop with the misleading actions and mixed signals. let's not be immature here, we all know that kana may have a crush on you. i know her almost like how i know my own mind."

"i..."

shirabu couldn't speak. of course. of course he wanted to be more. he hated the fact that kana could look at other guys that wasn't him— he realized that when kana said that futakuchi was handsome. he realized that he only wanted her to think of him as the most handsome, he wanted for his hand to be the only one she holds, he wanted to be her everything.

he's had enough of playing best friends— he wanted something more.

"so what if i like her? i don't stand a chance. i don't even know if she means it when she throws away flirty comments towards me. maybe she's just—"

"what the actual fuck..."

tendou cut off the copper haired male, and then both he and semi started laughing. shirabu felt his face warm up, caused by embarrassment. after all, that was out of character for him. he had always pushed away kana's advances, and now he tells his seniors that he actually likes the girl!

"you're one oblivious piece of—"

"can you not mock me..." shirabu sighed, "i don't even know how to get out of the best friend zone."

shirabu couldn't believe that he was actually saying those words. when he first realized and acknowledged that he might actually be crushing on his best friend, he doubted his own self. he told himself that it was not true, but he couldn't deny it when his heart would beat a lot faster whenever she was near, whenever their skins would touch, whenever his name would slip out of kana's lips.

"if it's not too much of me to ask, will you both please help me...?"
