The blue rose
The story of Belle Époque is that of corruption born from one’s own desire. It takes set during medieval times in the kingdom of Alexhea where all sorts of mystical creatures roam in freedom. The tale is laid out through the perspective of Leonidas, the youngest heir to the throne of the Vaughier family. It’s also the story we have to read for 500 word reaction paper.
“Leonidas was a prince who had absolutely everything yet despite that, he still had something he wanted to search for; can anyone tell me again what that is?” Mdm. Rose asks during Literature class.
It’s Amaryllis, a flower that blooms every time a banshee dies so as the story says. It is said that drinking its brew will heal any sort of sickness. He wishes to attain that brew and give it to his comatose sister. So yea, the first chapters speaks of his quest to find a banshee despite the ongoing war.
No one in class raises their hand. This irks Mdm. Rose, forcing her to call out to anyone by random.
She closes in on Roszhen who notices. “Well would our new student care to give an answer?” She asks. Roszhen stands and mumbles out something. The teacher tells her to make her voice louder.
“A blue rose,” she stutters.
“What?”
“Prince Leonidas is searching for a blue rose.”
The teacher pauses for a moment then sighs, “dear, did you read your book?”
“I did...” she replies, her voice getting lower.
“If you did, then dear you probably read it wrong, a blue rose hasn’t been once mentioned in the story. It’s an Amaryllis flower okay?”
“But…”
“No excuses, please do take your seat.”
The teacher then proceeds to the chapter discussion. Roszhen since then has remained silent in her seat. The encounter ends with us being tasked to read the next chapter in advance.
Thinking back on earlier, Roszhen should have just said that she didn’t read the chapter yet. I mean yea Mdm. Rose expects everyone along with the new ones to read ahead of time but she didn’t know that Roszhen just newly transferred. Roszhen should have just told her the honest truth, that way she wouldn’t end up embarrassing herself like that. Then again…what if she wasn’t lying? Could she have misread it?
Why do I even bother? I mean she transferred here just yesterday, I’m probably feeling sympathy for her because if something like that happened to me it would be a disaster to my reputation.
Reputation…who am I screwing? I’ve already gotten enough attention from all my dazing out in class. I probably look like some delinquent to her. Then again yesterday’s glances confirmed our bad impressions of each other. Sigh. I’m supposed to lay low, what am I doing giving out first impressions! And to a stranger at that! Well she ain’t really that much of stranger; I guess she was that girl I saw with a flower crown on her head if my memory serves me right, though in the end she’s still a stranger since we actually met just yesterday Though it wasn’t that great of a meeting either….Gah! Here I go again messing my head with useless thoughts when I have other things to have in mind. Time to be serious and get with the drama, wait….did I seriously just say that?
I…have always been aware that this happiness is of the temporary sort. When I say it like that it really does feel like I’m dramatizing my thoughts. This is influence from grandma, I just know it. Her rambles about soap operas have gotten to me. She loves soap operas. I don’t.
