“Now Ms. Faiye, this is all just a misunderstanding.” I tried to assure her. I can’t risk our relationship to fall any deeper than it already is. And I definitely can’t risk being called a maniac.
“What’s there to misunderstand,” she said. “You already said more than enough for me to suspect you of being a maniac!”
“Hey I just wanted to apologize for glaring at you the first time we met, what’s with the whole maniac business huh?“
She stopped, speechless. By then I thought I had won her over. Think again.
“My father,” she started, “said that if a stranger or someone you just met gives you too much attention then that’s already,” she struggled, “that’s already—
“Already what,” I leaned in.
“Clear signs of a potential,” her voice starting to rise, “MANIAC THAT WILL ONE DAY BECOME A BLOOD THIRSTY STALKER!” It was at this moment that she was already looking at me, straight in the eyes. The fierceness that sparkled from those ash grey eyes resembled those of a child who fought for what their innocent minds believed in. That stubborn expression along with the slight pout on her face reminded me of the times when I was a kid. Then again this girl right here isn’t exactly a kid. She’s the same age with me yet her gestures prove me wrong.
The silliness of it all made me laugh like I’ve never laughed before.
“Hey, what’s so funny?” she stammers.
“You,” I managed to sputter in the midst of laughing.
“What? I’m being serious and there you are laughing!” she grabs onto my right shoulder. “Hey are you listening!”
I couldn’t help it. Who would have thought that the day I’d laugh without a care of the world in school would actually come.
“So horrible, “she begins to sob.
Wait, is she crying? Oh my God. She really is crying! What the heck, over something like that she would actually start sob—
“Nicholas made the new girl cry!” A student from behind whispered.
“You got to be kidding me, making trouble this early?”Another one responded.
“The poor thing, what did that bully do to her?!” A guy from the other line mumbled loudly.
What the heck you bunch of morons I can hear you. And this girl here seriously, I’m better off being accused of being a maniac from only her point of view. But now with the other line of students and all their forest fire gossip I may have worsened my already at the brink of destruction reputation.
Seriously, my best intentions keep making a mess of things; I just want to fix it somehow. But how many times will it take for me? How many times will it take to get it right? What with all the screw ups, things might as well end with me getting scolded by a teacher.
“Mr. Heurlett, I’d like you and Ms. Faiye to come with me to the main office, now.
I just had to say it.
THIS IS REALLY TAKING A TURN FOR THE WORSE.
