It was july, 1993. We'll ignore the nitty gritty details of hyena birth and just say that a tiny kit was born. Haida. His name meant lucid, in hopes he would be an easy child to raise. Also, his mother just liked the name.
He was an easy baby, at least. He'd konk out for hours, only cry when he really needed to.
His father worked a lot, but when he was home he was Haida's favorite person. Maybe it was the songs he'd sing, maybe it was his guitar. Haida could always rely on him.
He relied on his father until he couldn't. When he was six, it felt like his whole life was at war. When he was older, he'd realized what his father had meant when he'd been screaming at his mother about an affair that she'd had.
Because of traditional beliefs, Haida was in custody of his mother and was told not to see his father.
His school life was damaged after he no longer had his father around. He wasn't particularly social and preferred studies over friends, aside from a jackal named Nokori, who seemed to have the same habits as himself.
That Christmas, he was mailed his father's acoustic guitar. Too scared to ruin it, he didn't touch it for months.
After new years, his mother became pregnant with his sister. 110 days later, Aki was born.
As expected, Haida stopped getting as much attention. He didn't mind it and enjoyed his sister's company.
