After the incident the pair tried to shake it off by filling the air with small talk. It was simple things like talking about the process or asking questions like what's your favorite color. The thought was eating at the back of Renjuns mind, Jia and him were going to be King and Queen of hell in about two years time.
He tried to ignore it but it kept coming back to him. "Are we close to the exit?" Jia asked. "I think so. We should probably go left." He spoke. Before they turned the corner, Renjun grabbed Jia by the wrist and pulled her behind him. He put a finger to his lips, signaling for her to stay silent.
He could hear something, he wasn't sure what but he wasn't about to take any chances. He quickly turned the corner, knife pointed at someone's throat, a similar knife pointed at his. The girl stepped back, retracting her knife which caused Renjun to do the same.
"Who are you?" He asked. "Well I could ask you the same." She responded. "Anyways, my name is Song Feifei. I work here with my partner, Minjae to escort people out of the labyrinth and through the haunted woods and house on spring locks end. So congrats you have made it to the end of the labyrinth!" Feifei explained. "Minjae! I found them!" She called over her shoulder. "Come on you two, your friends are waiting for you." She motioned for them to follow her.
Suddenly, a shorter boy appeared next to Feifei. He looked at the pair, his eyes landing on Renjun. "Good day, your highness. I see this is the famous Yang Jia if I'm correct." Minjae spoke. "Hello Jia, I'm Minjae, Feifeis partner." Minjae introduced himself. "Pleasure. So you two are guiding us through the haunted woods?" Jia asked.
"Yup! It's our job to make sure no one dies or gets their soul taken." Minjae smiled. Jia gave a concerned smile which made Renjun suppress a laugh.
Feifei and Minjae walked just ahead of Renjun and Jia, leaving the pair to converse among themselves. "So we have to make it through the woods and then what?" Jia asked. "The house on spring locks end." Renjun glanced over at her. "Care to explain?" Jia pushed. "It's basically like an abandoned house full of traps and supernatural things. Basically the most dangerous part of this trip. It's known to possess people and turn them against each other and honestly I'm just hoping that doesn't happen." He explained.
"What would happen if it does?" Jia was full of questions. "Someone will die." He responded bluntly. A small silence overtook them at that point. They walked a little further, a rustling coming from a little farther behind them making Jia jump in fear. She instinctively clinged to the nearest person who was, you guessed it, Renjun.
She grabbed his arm, letting go quickly when she realized there was nothing to be afraid of. They were both taken off guard by Jias action, not knowing how to react. Renjun was still partially hung up on wondering how their eyes flashed already. They weren't in love.
"Renjun?" Jia spoke. He hummed in response, looking at her as they walked. "If we are soulmates.. does that mean I'm going to be queen of the underworld?" She asked. Renjun chuckled lightly at the question. "Jia, your demon name doesn't mean queen of the underworld for no reason." His voice faded out at the end, finally coming to realization.
"What's wrong?" She asked, noticing his behavior. "Our eyes weren't meant to flash so early, we aren't in love yet. I was trying to figure out why and I just did. All the clues were pointed so obviously that it just happened already. It's rare, but it happens. Finding out your demon name, sparking green electricity when our hands touched that one time? It was right in front of us the whole time." Renjun explained.
"Well I'll be damned.. well I mean, the Cupid's Bow chemical in us should be released already so the affectionate part of all this is bound to start soon, I mean I can already see dashes of pink in your eyes." Jia laughed. Renjun was stunned, staring at her in confusion. "Jia... how do you know about that?" He asked. Jia came to a realization and looked at him horrified. "I-I dont know." She answered.
"Okay hang on, you have fangs, wings, red eyes, powers, and now added knowledge- Fuck! Fuck, Jia it's because you are royalty!" Renjun exclaimed. "What's happening?" Jia asked frantically. "We have to advance the woods and get straight to the house on spring locks end. You are changing because you are now royalty so if I don't get you transformed as soon as I can you are going to be half human and half demon and I can't let that happen." He grabbed Jia by the hand, speeding up and walking faster.
Of course Jia was lost, so much was happening that she didn't understand and she didn't know how to comprehend it all. Soon enough, they had made it to the rest of the group, Renjun informing them of the situation. Everyone else understood what was going on but Jia just felt dazed. Almost as if something was happening inside of her. Her vision started blurring in and out. She looked around, past Renjuns shoulder, she saw a figure in the distance.
Jia squinted her eyes to try and make them out but when she blinked, they were gone. "Renjun-" She shakily grabbed onto him, stumbling a tad. He looked over, immediately concerned when he saw the state she was in.
"Jia whats wrong?" He asked quickly. "Someone is coming." She answered, her breaths heavy. "Who is coming?" He needed to get an answer out of her. She blinked once again, the figure appearing right in front of her. "H-he's here." She whispered, her eyes locked on the figure that no one else could see.
"Jia, who is it, tell me." He grabbed her gently by the shoulders. She began to slowly start to lose consciousness, whispering out one last thing before collapsing in Renjuns arms.
"The destroyer."
