Christian POV
“We’re here,” Isabella says once we reach the gates of the mansion where most members of our cavern stays.
“I’m not ready to face them,” I tell her. She wraps her hand in mine, intertwining our fingers. It provides me with the greatest deal of comfort. “You don’t have to tell them now,” she gives me a soft smile that reaches my heart.
“No, I have to do this. I can’t keep them in the dark for much longer. There’s already questions about my recent absenteeism,” I sigh.
The gates open up and I drive into the grounds. When we walk up to the entrance doors I spot Colt. His face is between his legs and his hands are ruffling up his jet black hair. Could it be news about the demons. As we near him he lift his head up. Not waiting he rushes towards us.
“Your sister... my...Cass-"
“Colt you need to breathe,” Isabella tries to calm him down.
Oh boy.
How did he find out.
“Christian, tell me Axel is just messing with my head,” Colt pleads. His breathe is frantic. I cant imagine what he must going through. That darn Axel.
I can see tears at the brim of Colts eyes but he wont let them fall. It’s that demon pride that won’t let him shed a tear. The last time I saw him cry was-
My thoughts are cut off when I see the little trouble maker stepping outside. I meet his gaze but I don’t sense any fear from him. The stupid twat probably thinks that he has done us all a favour.
“Gather everyone in the main hall,” I tell Isabella who is still trying to calm an uneasy Colt.
I stride towards Axel who has a smug look on his face. I grab him by the collar and bang him against the wall. “What have you done?”
“Something you were too chicken to do,” he says as his expression changes into a more serious one. “Christian, sweetheart come along,” Isabella’s soothing voice calms the boiling anger within me. “This is far from over,” I tell Axel.
* * *
The whole Cavern is gathered in the main hall. They look anxious and so am I. My wife’s touch slowly but surely calms my nerves.
“I’m not going to beat about the bush. Instead I'm just going to come out and say it,” I start pausing to catch my breath.
“I’m aware of the rumours about the possibility of my little sister being alive. I stand before you at this very moment to confirm it. Yes my baby sister is still alive,” I announce.
Immediately as expected there’s a rise of excited banter. I raise my hand for silence.
“Unfortunately she wont be returning,” there are gasps throughout the room at my sudden announcement one of them coming from my wife beside me.
“She doesn’t have a choice. Her place is with her Cavern,” it was the annoying brat himself who said it. I glare at Axel feeling my jaw tick I squeeze my wife’s hand in hope that I refrain from splitting his head.
“For centuries our Cavern have suffered without the protection of Cassandra. We can be safe again,” he continues.
It takes everything in me to not move a muscle or else I’ll...
“That will be all for today. As you were,” Isabella addresses the Cavern. She pulls me out of the halls guiding me to my office. I know what’s coming. It would seem like she saved me from the other’s but really she is going to give me an earful once we through those doors.
“ I don’t get you,” she starts and I groan at her words. Here it comes.
“I’m starting to think that this isn’t fear. This is you being stubborn,” she scolds.
“Me stubborn?”
I cant help but mock her. She’s cute when she gets bossy.
“You are impossible,” she yells in frustration.
Before she could say something both Axel and Colt barges into my office.
My mood instantly changes. “If you don’t bring her back-"
“You’ll what?,” I glare at Axel. My patience was wearing thin with him. His nostrils flare in anger. I always admired the kid. That’s why I took him under my wing. I’m responsible for him. I practically raised him as my own.
He has a reputation as the Caverns troublemaker.
“I have had just about enough of people telling me what to do. She is my sister,” I yell.
There’s a knock on the door before any of them could challenge me.
“Is this a bad time?”
We all face the voice and instantly we fall to our knees. “Not at all,” I say.
Phoebe is the most powerful witch to have ever walked the earth. Most Caverns could not stand the fact that she visited ours frequently. Honestly it’s because of my sister.
Phoebe and Cassandra were best friends or more of sisters , completely inseparable.
“Please rise. We need to discuss some important matters,” she suggests.
I rise to my feet signalling the boys to leave us. They head towards the door but Phoebe stops them.
“It concerns Cassandra so I think it would be best if you stay.”
The boys lightly bow to her presence and Colt shuts the doors.
