Red lipstick stained the white coffee cup as she drank from it. She licked her lips before setting the cup down in front of her. The morning band in the coffee shop played "coffee cups and cigarettes", and the rain hitting the windows of the shop made them sound even better. "Sorry that I'm late, love," Mark smiled, rushing to put his bag down on the ground and his coffee was now run cold from the wait. "Did you wait long?" He asked, scratching the scruff on his face. He rested his hand on my cheek.
She waited a long time. She'd been waiting since the opening just to listen to her surroundings, and take everything in. A smile poured onto her lips. "Yes, but, that's my fault," she softly giggled after the statement.
"Your fault? What do you mean?" Mark asked her. His hand reached for hers, and he softly rubbed his thumb on the back of her palm swiftly. His laugh gave her stomach butterflies as he looked down shyly.
"I wanted to read a little and listen to the band," she smiled. "I love mornings like this." It truly was a blessing for mornings like this one, especially with her boyfriend, Mark. He was the sweetest man anyone could ask for.
"I have to record later, and I was wondering if you'd like to join? You don't have to do anything, but it's nice to have your company when I'm doing so." Every bit of him was something she admired. He loved her being by his side too. It didn't matter if they talked or not. "Why not bring Emery with you?"
Emery had become part of (Y/N)'s life when she had turned twenty. Emery was her best friends daughter, however, when she and her boyfriend passed in a fatal accident, (Y/N) was the godmother. "Emery is with my parents right now, since they wanted her for a few days. I'm sure she'd love to come over with me since it's her last day with them." Mark knew of the situation. He loved Emery as much as (Y/N) does. "She started calling me Mom, and I wasn't sure how to take it."
"Do you like it?" Mark asked. He sounded happy for her; but in the worst way, she wanted her to call Mark, Dad. It wasn't about (Y/N) this time, it was bound to happen.
"Now that I've calmed down, I don't mind the name," She smiled. "She is my daughter now, after all. Nothing less. I mean, she's obviously my best friends daughter, but she's definitely mine too. She reminds me so much of her."
"Emery has a piece of her heart, no wonder you love her so much." Mark lifted her hand and planted a kiss on the backside of her palm. "Why don't you two spend the night this time? Emery may or may not have a surprise waiting for her anyways," Mark chuckled. "I got her that game she always wants, but I want to play it too."
"Animal Crossings?" (Y/N) tilted her head to the side.
"Yeah, she can play it whenever she comes over," Marks smile was warm.
She giggled. "You're so sweet to us."
"Aren't I supposed to?" His smile gave her butterflies. "I love being sweet to you."
A ding rang from her phone, a text message. She picked the phone up and looked at it.
Mom:
Emery keeps asking for you sweetheart. I think
you should probably come get her now. We had a
really nice night with her and I'm sure she'll tell
you all about it."Who's that?" Mark asked her, taking a sip of his drink.
"My mom. Emery wants to come home a little early," she started typing back. "Do you mind driving me over to get her and her things? Then we can just head to your place if that's okay?"
Mark smiled. "You must have walked here?"
"Well I don't live too far," she started to gather her things. "Thank you for the coffee," she put down $15 on the table, paying for both her and Marks drink, and a tip. She slipped her book into her bag.
Mark slipped his hand to bind with hers. He pecked her cheek.
The trip to her parents house took about twenty minutes from the café. Emery was sitting on the porch. "Grandma, Grandpa, Mommy and D-" she caught herself, thinking it was a bad idea. "Mommy's here! And Marks here!"
"Go get your bag honey," (Y/N)'s mom said softly.
"Hey you two, how are you doing Mr. and Mrs. (L/N)?" Mark asked, walking up the steps.
"We're great, how are you?" The asked.
"I'm doing swell. Your daughter and granddaughter make everything better, for sure," Marks face flushed a pink color.
Emery jumped into Marks arms. "I missed you! Are we going over to your place tonight?" She asked sweetly. "Or do I have to ask Mommy?"
"Oh no, Mommy already decided to stay with me tonight. And I definitely missed you too pumpkinseed," he squeezed her tightly. "Right Mommy?"
(Y/N) smiled brightly. "Right!"
