Ch. 6
I leave Angelica's around 2 and go home. When I get home, I take a quick shower and decide to text Jordan's mom asking about Jordan. In summary, she says he's making progress and that doctors have more information on Jordan's diagnosis. According to Jordan's mom, Jordan suffers from retrograde amnesia, which we already knew. It was not so severe considering that only a year of memories were gone. His most recent memories were lost first but older memories usually remained which is proven in Ribot's law. I am relieved that he would not have to go back a grade but would continue senior year with a tutor in a week after resting.
After getting an update on Jordan, I chill at home a bit watching some Netflix and finishing my homework. At 5, I leave for work at the roller rink. I arrived at work and went into the back room to put on my roller blades since it was required to wear them while serving customers their food. I know, how hazardous, but it was kinda fun once you get used to it. I've been working at the roller rink since the beginning of summer, and it has been pretty fun for the most part. They do themes on the weekends. Today's theme was superhero, so I wore an iron man t-shirt and did a cute red eyeshadow look. Around 7, I saw Lucas, Alec, Justin with four other girls I did not quite recognize. They take a seat at the booth to put on their roller blades.
"Hey guys! It's so nice to see you," I greet them as I get my notepad out to take their orders.
"It's good to see you too. Me, Lucas, and Alex just went to visit Jordan before this and he seems great. We were gonna invite him but decided not to cuz that man has a fucking concussion and amnesia," Justin says .
Jordan, Alec, and Justin have been friends since middle school, so he remembers them, but he does not know Lucas but was introduced to him and they clicked just like before.
"Aw yea I talked to his mom, and it seems like he's going to be just fine considering everything," I respond.
"Yea he's still there. Now he just needs to remember you," Alec continues.
"Yea I am in the process of that. I hope it all works out" I state.
"Nice shirt," Lucas says as I look at my shirt and notice we both have iron man on and I laugh.
"Nothing can beat good ol' iron man," I joke and Lucas laughs and nods.
"Anyway. I should get going and actually work," I state and skate away.
After serving the group, I continue to serve everyone else. It was not too crazy busy today, so I was not that stressed out. After 10, I leave to go home.
---
Today's Monday making it a little over a week since Jordan's little incident, and he would be returning to school today. I haven't seen or talked to him since my last visit at the hospital. I know, call me a terrible girlfriend, but I wanted to give him room to recover and not to overwhelm him too much since he had Lucas, Justin, and Alec to help him remember. I plan on seeing him today, but I can't help but to feel nervous. As I walk into the entrance, I see him with his friends by his locker.
"Hey Jordan! How you doing?" I ask as I approach the group, trying to stop myself from hugging him, and I realized I sounded a little too eager.
"Hey! Um," he begins to speak but forgets my name.
"Fiona," I answered with a smile because I can't blame the guy. He has freaking amnesia!
"Right," he responds but sounds like he does not want to talk to me.
"Anyway, yea I should get going to first period. Bye," I waved to boys turning to walk to class and I see Justin and Alec have a look on their faces as if saying "don't worry, he'll warm up." Where did the energy of me getting him back go?
"Hey! Wait up, Fiona," I turn around as Lucas walks to me.
"I thought giving him space would help," I whisper mostly talking to myself.
"It will. You have to give it some time. This is all new to him," Lucas says in attempts to comfort me which did.
"Yea. I just don't want to force anything. I'm gonna try to get him back, but I mean, if it isn't meant to be, I might have to let him go," I continue feeling sort of defeated.
"Hey! That's not the Fiona I know. You're always so positive. I guess I'll be Fiona right now. 'This is going to work. He will find his way to you,'" Lucas mimics me and I laugh.
"Okay. Yea I really needed that. Anyway see you next period" I smile and walk into my first class.
---
School was the same as usual. I saw a tutor following Jordan around helping him get caught up and to his classes, but I didn't say anything since I didn't want him to think I was obsessed with him or anything. I'm gonna slowly but surely talk to him. I am in dance practice right now, and we decided to stretch on our own today instead of in a group. We are talking about school and just random stuff until another senior girl, Abby, begins talking about Jordan.
"So Fiona, what's happening with you and Jordan. Seems like he doesn't like you all that much," Abby acts as if she's joking, but I can tell she's not.
"What do you mean?" I ask already annoyed at her.
Here's the thing, no one really liked Abby. She was a fake snake. Like I wish I could say something good of her but I can't. We all tolerate her, but sometimes, like now, it's hard. Journey told me that she gets scared of the black kids at lunch and would sometimes joke how she would be darker than me in the summer. I probably forgot to mention, but I am half black half Filipina, so that pisses me off and even if I was white or something, I would still be pissed. I can't stand people who are racist. Okay, rant over.
"We have math together, and he asked me out, and I asked what about Fiona, and he said what about her? And said that you have this huge crush on him or something. And that I shouldn't worry about you," Abby tells us her little story.
"Hmmm. Well I hope you said no. We are dating," I responded as Naomi, Journey, and Julie watched not interfering.
"I'm sorry. I could not say no. Since he doesn't remember you, you guys aren't technically dating. I hope you understand," Abby attempts to act apologetic, but I can see right through her.
I'm surprised she said yes considering that Jordan is half black...
"You know what? Go on that date. Have fun," I bit my tongue trying to be the bigger person because I didn't want to cause any beef on the team. I can't control either of them. This was going to be a lot harder than I thought.
"I promise you I didn't mean for this to happen," Abby replies now trying to be the bigger person as well.
"It's all good," I finish the conversion as we get in our spots to go over our routine.
---
"What was that all about," Julie asks while we walk to our cars after practice.
"Oh nothing. Just Abby being Abby. She's going on a date with Jordan," I sarcastically say to Julie rolling my eyes.
I wasn't mad at Julie, I was just annoyed with Abby."Girl, if I were you, I'd beat her ass. That's your man," Journey joins in the conversation.
"Yea. Abby should know better," Naomi chimes in.
"There's nothing I can do about it. Jordan isn't the Jordan I was with. He's back to jackass Jordan," I state.
"He's in there. Trust me, Fiona," Julie says trying to comfort me.
"He is! I know he is. It's just really difficult when I have all these obstacles, but I'll let you know how everything goes," I wave goodbye and enter my car.
