Ch. 11

Today is day 1 of me actually trying to get my boyfriend back instead of thinking he will eventually find his way to me. I don't know why, but calling him my boyfriend just doesn't sit the same knowing he's been seeing Abby, but enough is enough. I'm tired of watching Jordan being with Abby when he should be with me. Omg this sounds so dramatic, but it's true. Abby broke the number one girl code, but I'mma have her heart broken. Just kidding I would never, but I will get Jordan back.

I drove to school and walked to my locker where I saw Lucas leaning against it.

"Hey!" I greet him with a smile as I open my locker.

"Hey. I was thinking that maybe I'll ask Abby to go to the movies or something," Lucas says, feeling confident in his strategy to distract her.

"You're kidding right? Going to the movie basically screams 'give me a handjob in the dark!' I said to be subtle," I whispered, shouted at him as I looked around the hallway making sure no one heard. I was surprised that he really thought that was a good idea.

"Hm yeah you're probably right. What should I do then?" Lucas asks.

"I don't know, maybe ask for help on homework. Don't you guys have math together?" I ask.

"Yea, but like I said before, my mum's a maths teacher, so she would question it," Lucas replies.

"Ah that's right. I forgot," I stated, closing my locker and heading to first period.

"Wait. I remember last week she asked me for help in economics cuz she saw I got an A and she got a D, not Jordan's if that's what you're wondering," Lucas bursts out in laughing at his own joke and I can't help but to join. His laugh was contagious. I have to admit, that was a good one.

"Okay bet. Let her know you can help her then," I tell him after settling down laughing.

"Got it. See you later," Lucas says and walks to his class.

At the end of school, Lucas texts me asking to hang for a bit after practice and I tell him yes.

While we stretch in dance practice, I overhear Abby and Julie talking about Lucas.

"Yea in econ, Lucas offered to help me with the homework and study for tests," Abby tells Julie in her hushed gossip voice.

"Really? Are you implying something," Julie questions.

"I mean he is cute. That damn accent too," Abby laughs.

"Hold up. I thought you and Jordan were sort of a thing," Julie asks, raising her eyebrow.

"Can't I have both? It's not like we're exclusive or anything," Abby confirms while switching legs to stretch.

"You're right. You do you. Just let them know you're in for a good time, not a long time," Julie replies and I can't help but to laugh at her reference to Drake lyrics.

"Fiona!" Journey says, snapping her fingers in front of me to grab my attention.

"Oh my God! Sorry about that. You're usually the one distracted and daydreaming," I slightly laugh because it was true. Journey was notorious for zoning out to the point she had to see a doctor to see if it was unhealthy or not, but she was fine.

"Spill it. What were they talking about? I saw you eavesdropping," Journey presses on.

"Abby is trying to get with both Jordan and Lucas. I mean no slut shaming or anything, but I don't know why she couldn't just leave Jordan alone because she knew we were dating! It's so frustrating," I sigh, feeling very annoyed.

I know this was part of the plan to get her distracted with Lucas but it meant only Lucas, not both!!!

"Yea what's her problem? It's like she's looking for trouble. It's okay to have fun and have hoes or whatever but Jordan was off limits," Journey answers.

"Yea I know, but I'm not too worried. I have a plan," I tell Journey.

"What is it?" Journey asks excitedly to hear my response.

"Keep it lowkey. Lucas is helping me to distract her to help Jordan realize she doesn't actually care for him but I do," I reveal my plan to Journey.

"Wow. I like it. I would have thought faking dating Lucas, but that's only in the movies," Journey praises my plan.

"Yea. Only a few more months being on this team with her, and we are free," I say, standing up from stretching to start going over our football half time routine.

"Okay get to the starting position," Journey instructs the team and we oblige.

After practice, I go home to take a quick shower and meet Lucas at Shake Shack.

"Hey!" I smile at Lucas as I walk towards him sitting at a table near a window.

"Hey! How was practice?" he asks, standing up to stand in line to order food with me.

"It was good. It went by quickly. Also, Abby is down to get with you by the way," I tell Lucas as we wait in line.

"Yea I figured. She seemed a little too eager to study economics," Lucas laughs but soon stops when it's our turn to order.

After ordering, we take a seat at our table waiting for our food. As we were talking about the football game Friday, Lucas gets a phone call.

"I'll be back," Lucas says and takes the call outside.

I nod and go on my phone while I wait. After about 5 minutes, Lucas comes back and the food is done right on time.

"Everything okay?" I ask Lucas who looked clearly upset from the phone call.

"Oh no yeah everything is fine, just family stuff," Lucas shrugs, but I could tell it completely shifted his mood.

"Are you sure? You wanna talk about it?" I ask him to let him know I'm here to listen.

We always talk about my problems. The least I could do is help him with his problems.

"I don't really wanna talk about it to be honest. It's just too much right now," Lucas admits as he takes a bite of his burger.

"I totally get it. I'm here to talk about it whenever you're ready," I say and then I take a bite of my burger as well and he nods.

Being my nosy self, I wonder what happened? I respect his decision not to talk about it, but I can't help but to be curious. No matter how curious I am, I don't push him to talk about it because I don't wanna make him uncomfortable. He'll tell me when he wants to.

The rest of the dinner was just small talk. It wasn't the same after the phone call. I hope he feels better tomorrow. I say goodbye to him and head home.
