Ch.12
For the past two weeks, operation Aberduber has been somewhat a success. A couple of days ago, Lucas and I have been plotting the epic homecoming plan to get Jordan back. Lucas has been doing pretty well keeping Abby distracted with studying for economics. Yes, I actually do mean studying. Lucas decided to take sex off the table cuz he said it didn't feel right to use her like that and I agree even though she's been trying to get with him. I guess I was too caught up in the moment and didn't think about how it would make her feel, but it did give me time to talk to Jordan but just baby steps.
Jordan actually sees me as a somewhat friend and not some obsessed person he thought I was before. This is progress.
Homecoming is 9/28 which is this upcoming Saturday. Lucas and I came up with the plan for me to play this slow song that Jordan and I first danced to while Lucas dances with Abby. I'm hoping this song jogs his memory. I know it doesn't work like that, but it's worth a shot. Yea I know what you're thinking. "How am I going to get to dance with Jordan when he's going with Abby?" Well I've got the answer.
I'm going to "accidently" spill punch all over her dress, and then she'll go to clean herself up with her girlfriends. While she cleans herself, I'll request the song and wait a song or two until our song actually plays. I'll sit at a table near Jordan and he can't help but to ask me to dance cuz he feels bad that I'm alone and we are somewhat friends and boom he remembers. Okay he probably won't remember but I'm hoping for that spark. I may be a little too hopeful, but this is my holy grail. When Abby comes back and the song is still playing, Lucas will offer to dance with her. So that's the plan.
Anyway, it's Homecoming week! Today is Tuesday which means it's the annual Stingerbowl match where senior girls vs. junior girls if you choose to sign up. Stingerbowl is basically a soccer game. The dance coach usually doesn't let us participate in this little game because she doesn't want us to get hurt before competition season, but the past few years she's been letting us, so we signed up. The coaches are the varsity football players which means Jordan will be there.
After dance practice, we get ready for the soccer match and head to the football field. We stretch and warm up. Our "coaches'' tell us the game plan and we break out. I am playing the position forward which means I try to make goals in simple terms. I've played soccer for a few years, so it's nice to be back for a short time.
During half time we are leading 2-0 against juniors. Abby's midfield and has not passed me the ball once when I was clearly open. We have some unspoken beef or something. It's because of her taking Jordan, but it has been happening before that and I don't know why. The coaches call her out on it and tell her to pass it to me. We hurdle up with our hands in the middle and yell "Seniors" on the count of 3 and break out back to our positions.
As I'm running with the soccer ball trailing in front of me, I make it near the goal and take my best shot, and I make a goal!!! The girls cheer for and I see Jordan yell "Good job Fiona!" with a huge smile and thumbs up. Abby sees this and for some reason, she makes a disgusted look. I don't know why she was so pressed about it though like it helped our team so she needs to chill.
The other team has the ball now, but Abby steals it back and starts running towards the goal. I wave my arm in the air and tell her I'm open, and the coaches tell her to pass it to me. She gives this devilish smile and kicks the ball as hard as she can and it hits me square in the face.
The ball hit me so hard to the face where it literally knocks me to the ground. I feel warm liquid quickly spilling down my nose and see all the blood. I am in so much pain. Everyone around me moves out of the way to give space for the coaches and the physical trainer kneels down by my side.
"Oh my God. Fiona, are you okay?" Jordan asks, placing a hand on my shoulder. I can see a hint of concern in his eyes, and I just give a slight nod.
The physical trainer starts to examine my nose and tells me it's broken. This can not be happening. This is the very reason why our coach didn't want us to play. She is going to kill me.
"No, my nose can not be broken. It doesn't even hurt," I lie, shaking my head.
"It's broken. Let's go inside, so I can get a better look," the physical trainer states, helping me stand up.
"Fiona! I am so sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you," Abby says and starts crying causing Jordan to rush to her side to comfort her. She walks away with him to her side and turns back to give a slick smile.
This was intentional. I can not believe she would really try to hurt me like that. This was low, even for her. I am done playing nice.
I walk back to the physical trainer's room and he takes a better look at my nose. He confirms it's broken. Ugh. I am furious. Friday's the homecoming prep rally and I was supposed to perform. This doesn't only affect me but my whole team. They are going to have to change positions since I will be taken out of it.
"I can still dance right? I will be extra careful," I beg even though I already know the answer, but it's worth a shot.
"No, I'm sorry Fiona. You're going to have to sit out for at least 3 weeks or maybe a month to be safe.
"I understand. Thank you," I sign and exit the school.
I was out of the spirit to go back to the Stingbowl. She completely ruined my mood. I walk to my car and head home.
When I walk into my house, I head straight to the kitchen. My grandma sees my bandaged nose and is shocked.
"Fiona, what happened to your face," she says and rushes to my side to get a closer look with pure concern in her voice and face.
"I'm okay. It's just a broken nose but should be healed in about a month. It was from the soccer game I told you about," I explained and took a seat at the dining table to eat some frozen grapes.
"Awe my poor baby. Do you want me to make you any tea or anything?" my grandma asks, trying to comfort me.
"It's okay Grams. I'll be okay," I tell her, trying to convince her and myself that I will be fine.
"Okay. Let me know if you need anything," she says and walks out the kitchen to go upstairs.
While eating the grapes, I get a text from Journey.
From Journey:
Aw, how are you?
From Fiona:
I'm fine. Abby fucking broke my nose.
From Journey:
That bitch. Now we are going to have to change our homecoming routine.
From Fiona:
Yea I'm sorry ;(
From Journey:
No girl you shouldn't be sorry. This is all Abby's fault. I don't know why the hell she would do that to you tho. We were all on the same team!!!
From Fiona:
Tell me about it!! She probably got jealous that Jordan was cheering for me about that goal I made, but like why? It helped us but whatever. I can't stand her.
From Journey:
She is literally so jealous of you. She probably wanted your man and spot in the dance routine.
From Fiona:
Yea and she already has one and probably will take my spot too. Ugh. I'm over it.
From Journey:
Not if I can help it. Recall I am one of the captains. I'll see what I can do.
From Fiona:
Lol if you say so. See you tomorrow!
After my conversation with Journey, I take a quick shower trying to be cautious of my nose cuz I smell like ass from dance practice and the soccer game. After that, I finish some homework and chill until I fall asleep.
