"Come on Grace..." Daniel looked at me holding his hat. I put it on and it covered my eyes since it was too big.
"I just wanna wear it for a few more minutes." I giggled and took another drink of beer. He shook his head smiling as he took yet another as well."You can't even see baby."
It's been about two months since we started dating. He took me to see all of the landmarks in and around the area. First we went to see the Hollywood sign that I'd seen a hundred times before, but this time it was different, he made me feel so special.
His lips touched mine as we sat there on the couch. Today was movie night. We decided to watch scary movies all night since we don't have class tomorrow.
"Hey... Can I ask you something...?" His face immediately turned concerned.
"Of course baby... You don't have to ask." He kissed my cheek.
"Did you ever notice how Caleb and Elijah are really close... Like as if they like eachother..." As I said the words, I felt like an idiot talking about this.
"Well, they've been best friends since before they moved here. Both of their parents are in jail for drug dealing. They've become really close, but I mean I get what you're saying..."
I got up and went to the bathroom. I'd gotten pretty familiar to the house the past few months.
I walked down the long hall and into the second room on the right. It was pained light blue and it was beach-themed. The decorations mostly consisted of conch shells and sailboats.
When I was finished, my phone beeped.
I picked it up and read the message.
Derek: Will you please help me. My car broke down and its pouring out. I'm at the gas station a few miles down the road.
I was surprised that he'd texted me and not Lily, his girlfriend, or caleb or something. But I wasn't going to let him stay there at 11 pm while it was pouring.
Me: okay... I'm on my way
I responded as I was putting yoga pants on. I walked down the hall to see Daniel still on the couch.
"Babe, I'll be back in a few minutes... I have to pick up-" I struggled to say it-"Derek..."
"Want me to come too? You've been drinking a lot tonight." He stood up with his beer in his hand revealing his purple boxers.
"No... It's okay." I covered my mouth and laughed. "I think I can handle it." My head was a little tipsy, but I shook it away.
"Okay baby, I'm gonna go to bed. Love you." He kissed my forehead and walked down the hallway.
And with that, I grabbed the keys and was out the door. Mikey and I have become really close friends. He lets me drive his car when he's out with all of his football friends.
I started down the road. I didn't realize how hard it was raining till I got on the main road. The sky was black and every once and awhile a flash of lightning would brighten the pavement I was driving on.
The gas station lights grew closer and soon Derek's face appeared inside the small building.
"Hey, thank you so much for doing this." I nodded in response and turned the radio off since it wasn't even playing any music.
The ride home was silent until Derek's voice ripped through awkwardness, "you know I am really sorry..." He began. "I didn't even know what I was doing until-until I saw that you were on the news the next morning."
My jaw clenched.
"I don't expect you to ever forgive me... Not for what I let those men do to you."
My heart sank as he apologized to me.
"I just want you to know that I will always love you Grace Sutton. And nothing will ever get in my way of trying to get you back.
I started to tremble as I pulled off on the side of the road to enter our driveway. What did he mean 'nothing will ever get in his way'?
I tried to speak but his lips slammed against mine. Just when I was about to pull away like the last time, I felt his warm lips on mine. The taste of beer and his lips mixed together made me miss this. A lot. Maybe more than I realized at first. I missed the way his voice got deeper around me. I missed his awkward hair flips. I missed his green eyes staring into mine. I missed his touch. I missed him...
I put the car in reverse and backed into the garage. He picked me up still kissing me and carried me to his bedroom.
Maybe I did have one too many drinks...
