I walked into class not able to meet eyes with anyone, including Lily. I haven't replied to her texts and I've been sitting on the opposite side of the large room when the professor was talking.
"Grace?" I turned around to see a pissed off professor. My face turned red realizing that I've missed four classes in the past month. One of the days I missed, Elijah took me to one of my baby appointments.
So far, Eli is the only one I've told in the past three months of my pregnancy. He understood how I felt about this being private, and he's kept his promise not to tell a soul.
"Grace." He said again in a sterner voice than before. I grabbed my bag and placed it in front of my stomach.
"Yes professor Golab...?" I tried to sound sympathetic, but it came out as a question. He looked me dead in the eyes and shook his head. "Take a seat please." He pointed to an empty chair next to, guess who, Lily.
I sat down an took a deep breath. She looked at me through the corner of her eye, but I ignored it and tried to pay attention to professor Golab as he spoke about NICU.
Once class was over I stood outside waiting for Daniel to pick me up.
"Where have you been?" I looked over. "Grace. I know something is up. You haven't spoke to me in weeks. And you haven't shown up to class either... What is going on."
I tried to stand my ground, but the true sympathy shown through. "Oh Lily..." I ran up to her and hugged her. "I did something bad. Really bad!" Tears rolled down my face and she pulled me over to the bench. We sat there as she hugged me back. "What happened to you..." She said it in almost a whisper. "
Just then I heard a honk. I looked up to see Daniel. He smiled and then waved at the two of us. I stood up and wiped my eyes. "I'll talk to you later Lily, I've gotta go..." I basically ran to his car not bothering to look back.
The car ride was silent. He held my hand in the center console.
I then started feeling sick. My stomach was turning and I knew I was going to throw up. "Stop! Stop the car!" The car came to a stop, and I whipped the door open. I ran into the tall grass and threw up. Daniel came running up behind me and held my hair back.
"It's okay baby, you're okay." He calmed me and rubbed my back slowly.
"What's going on?" I turned around and he looked at me.
"You're eyes are red and you look like you've been crying. And you've been throwing up constantly. Grace, what is going o-"
Before he could finish his sentence, I spit out the answer, "I'm pregnant Daniel."
He stopped. His hands dropped me and he stood up.
"Daniel?" I began to get worried. He shook his head, and then smiled.
"We're, pregnant?" His smile grew bigger. "I'm- I'm gonna be a father?!" He grabbed me and spun me around excitedly.
Once he set me down, he looked at his phone. "I have to tell Caleb! I have to tell my mo-"
"Daniel." I cut him off again. "You can't tell anyone yet. Okay?"
His smile shrank, "oh okay... Yea." He kissed my cheek and guided me back to the car.
"So when did you find out? I mean we only had sex once..." I smiled remembering the perfect night months ago after the night I spent with Derek.
He bought me a dozen ruby red roses and he took me out to the fancy restaurant down town. Once we got back, he kissed me... But then it lead into something a little more.
"Um, three months..." I responded.
But it might not be yours... I said it in my head, but I didn't want it to be true. I didn't want the baby to be Derek's...
"I love you, Grace." He looked me in the eyes and kissed my cheek.
