I was sound asleep in Daniels arms when my phone went off full blast. I answered it to hear Mikey's voice. "Grace? Grace are you there?" He sounded worried.
I rubbed my eyes and yawned as Daniel awoke beside me. Alarmed, he looked at my stomach, most likely thinking I was going into labor or something.
"Uh, yea, it's grace. Mikey are you okay?"
From outside, thunder boomed and I could hear the rain pounding on the windows. It was both peaceful and terrifying.
I stood up as he spoke to me through the phone. His voice was tense and questionable. "Something happened to our taxi driver. He must've left or something cause of the weather alert."
I got out of bed, still in clothes I wore yesterday. Daniel got up too, following me to the dresser.
"What happened? Was that Mikey?" He walked towards me.
"Yeah. Their taxi bailed on them and I need to go pick them up. Don't worry, they're right down town."
Daniel looked at me. "Uh, you're not going anywhere. Go back to bed, I'll go get them. You shouldn't be driving, especially in this weather."
"Okay, I love you." He gave me a kiss and walked out the door, grabbing my keys. I heard the door shut and the car start.
I made my way back to the bed and fell onto it backwards so I could face the ceiling.
I looked in the mirror.
Should I be worried? My stomach was literally twice the size it was last month. It seems to be getting larger and larger like it'll never stop growing. I'm now almost eight months and none of my clothes officially fits me. I've been having to shop in the extra large maternity section...
I opened my top drawer in my dresser and took out a pair of spandex and a tshirt. I grabbed them and took them to the bathroom to get a shower.
Once I was finished, I grabbed my phone and looked towards my full body mirror. I turned my camera on and snapped a few pictures of my growing belly. I posted one to Instagram and posted another one to Twitter.
"Eight months and counting" it said.
I hopped out of the bedroom and down the hall. It's gotten a lot more crowded than when I first came to live with them. There were baby boxes everywhere from friends and family. I even got a baby shower present from my professor, which was a small box of diapers and some tiny blue shoes.
Thunder boomed once again from outside. I looked down towards the beach and the waves were humungous. The slammed into the shore and came up almost towards the house.
I poured some coffee into a small orange and gray mug.
"Woah..." I took a sip of coffee and sat down on the couch turning on the TV.
I heard something from down the hall.
"Hello...?" I stood up resting my hand on my stomach.
"Eli, is that you?"
I said it before remembering that Eli and Caleb left for a 'special date' this morning.
I was home alone. Or so I thought.
I hesitated before speaking again. "Is-is anyone there?" I said it in almost a whisper.
I tip toed down the hall and swerved around boxes piled up.
I heard another noise. I then realized it came from Derek's room. I took a deep breath and turned the doorknob.
Before me stood a man, who seemed to be in his mid-twenties. He had very dark skin and he was very tall. His eyes were almost as black as his hair.
I stood frozen in front of him. Staring at him.
He came running for me and plowed me over. His shoulders rammed into my chest and I lost my breath. My stomach hit the floor and all I felt was pain. He ran out the door with Derek's Xbox and some wires in his hands.
"Help! Stop, thief!" I clutched my stomach and tried to stand. My knees have out and I fell once again.
Sharp pains shot through my body as I realized there was blood all over the floor surrounding me.
The blood was coming from the right side of my chest. I grabbed it and felt something sticking out of it.
It was a knife.
I gasped when I tried to remove it. I crawled out of the doorway and down the hall, leaving a trail of blood.
"Ahhh!" My stomach felt like someone was pushing on it. The pressure was so painful. I let out another scream.
Then it hit me.
The baby was coming.
