The Strange Set

Chapter 2: Watched

I woke up to someone poking my face. I opened my eyes and saw Alice and Lacey standing over me.

"Wake up were gonna be late." Alice said grabbing my hand and pulling me up. I groaned and got up out of bed and went to my closet and took out sweat pants and a big Nirvana t shirt and walked to my bathroom. "Kitt you don't have time to take a shower." Lacey said. "Remind me why I gave you guys keys to my house." I groaned and closed the door to change clothes. I looked in the mirror and washed my face and reapplied makeup to my fading bruise, it was still a little noticeable but I did the best I could. I pulled my hair up and let my bangs fall in my face. I put on my converse and walked downstairs followed by Alice and Lacey and i grabbed my bag. We all went outside and I locked the door I told them I was gonna walk and they got in Lacey's car and drove off.

I walked along the sidewalk passing various houses until I passed a particular one. It was an old run down white house, it looked like nobody has lived in it for years. I got an uneasy feeling as I was looking at the house. I felt the feeling I felt last night when I saw the siloette of somebody outside. My eyes were dragged to a window and there was the same siloette, then I heard my phone buzz I looked at the clock. "Shit I'm late!" I said looking back to see the siloette was gone. I ran to the school dodging cars and morning joggers, and got into my class before he said my name on roll call. I went to my seat and sat down out of breath. I turned to look at where Nolan should be but he was no where to be seen. I laid my head down and slept the first period away.

I awoke to Lacey shaking me. "Kitt wake up did you not hear the announcement?" "Announcement? What announcement? " I asked stretching and yawning.
"Uhh, snow storm, we're getting a blizzard which means no school, Yay."

I smiled at her enthusiasm as she pulled me up and pulled me outside. " Come on I'll drive you home and if you want I'll stay with you." She said leading me to the car and I got inside. She started the car and we made our way to my house. When was passed the abandoned house I got a strange feeling from earlier I quickly looked at the window from before and when I did the glass broke and nothing but a screen showed. I looked away freaked out and looked towards my house when I saw something strange but familiar.

Lacey pulled into my drive way behind my dad's pickup truck that I haven't seen in a few weeks. "Your dad's here?" She asked I'm a worried tone. "Yea but he should hav-" I was cut off by seeing my dad appear on the front porch wearing a suit, clean shaved, hair combed, smiling, and he looked like he took a shower. I was shocked by this then Lacey spoke up. "Want me to sit here and u go talk to him u can run back and we can go to my house after ok but I'd it's good text me and I'll leave k?" She said giving me a weak smile and I nodded and got out of the car and proceeded towards the porch.
"Hey pumpkin...-" He said holding his arms out to hug me. "we need to talk." He said leading me to the living room and sitting on the couch. We sat in awkward silence for a while then he spoke up. "I bet you're wondering what I'm doing here and why I look different." He said and I nodded getting my phone out and ready to text just incase. "Well I decided it was time to come clean and raise you like I should have.... I'm so sorry for everything." He said as his voice cracked and tears welled in his eyes. He jumped and hugged me tightly causing me to wince and jump. And we sat there as he hugged me. After a while we sat on the couch and sat in silence and I think he fell asleep cause I heard snoring. I quietly walked upstairs to my room and layed in bed staring at the ceiling.

Hours passed and I still haven't fallen asleep. I heard my dad walk upstairs then walk back down and into the kitchen then the living room tv turned on and the sound of my mom's voice filled the house. The old home videos. I put on my flip flops and grabbed my phone and opened the door slightly and the smell of alcohol reached my nose. "Oh no, dad, I thought you changed." I said shutting the door and going to my closet to pull out some clothes and my duffle bag and packed my stuff together and looked at my phone.

I sigh as I walk to my window and open it and throw my bag out near the door and quickly changes shoes incase I need to run.
I grab everything else I need that will fit in my pockets and quietly maked my way downstairs.

The sound of my dad violently sobbing filled my ears and I missed a step on the stairs and made a loud thud as I caught myself. "You-" He said turning to look at me. "You bitch. You took her away from me! It's your fault she's dead! Why couldn't you die instead of her!" He stood up and was coming towards me. I panicked and picked up a ashtray and threw it at him. It hit his head and he yelled making him more pissed off. I ran out the door with him chasing me grabbed my bag and took off down the road. I don't really know anyone that would take me in but I ran to a house in panic and knocked on the door as my father chases me still "Hello??" I said as I heard stirring in the house. I looked around to see my father getting closer. "Anyone? please let me in i need help please!" I yelled as the door flew open and two arms were wrapped around me pulling me inside and the door slamming shut and locking.

I stood there in the black room breathing heavily as the two arms slowly slipped off me. "Are you ok?" A familiar voice in the darkness echos. "Yeah. I am now." I say as I look up, eyes adjusting to the darkness.
"Nolan?" I say not being completely sure who I'm speaking to. "Yea?" He said turning on a light revealing his face. "Thank you." I say smiling ad he takes my hand and leads me to the couch.
"So wanna talk about it? Or wait till morning I bet ur tired." I smiled. " Do you mind if I spend the night here?" I asked looking down. "Sure you can sleep in my bed." He said smiling. "What about you?" I asked him and he half smiled. "Well I'll sleep down here....unless you want company." He said winking making me giggle. "I'd feel bad making you sleep on the couch so I'll take the couch." "No your not I'll carry you up there if I have to."  "Well that kinda extr- ahh!" I was cut off by Nolan picking me up bridal style and walking upstairs to what I assumed was his room and threw me on his bed making me bounce off and fall on the floor. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry. you ok?" He said panicking and picking me up and setting me on the bed. I laughed and shook my head. "Nolan I'm fine." "Well since you would feel bad of i slept on the couch and I refuse to let you sleep there i guess we're both sleeping up here." He said looking at me. "I guess." I said crawling to one side and laying down. He layed down beside me the started moving around grabbing pillows left and right. "What are you doing?" "I'm making a barrier you have a side and I have a side." He said putting pillows in between us making a small wall.

I rolled over to look at him. "Sorry if I'm a bother at all I'll leave in the morning." I said looking at him yawning.
"No don't your not a bother you can stay as long as you need." He said smiling. I smiled back and nodded while rolling over to look at the window and slowly drifted to sleep.
