Chapter 4: White

×Kitts P.O.V×
I woke up to a white light filling the room and the bed empty. I looked out the window beside me and saw the ground covered in snow. I heard the sound of people chattering and a sizzling noise coming from down stairs. I got our of bed and poked my head out the door. As I did Nolan was coming up the stairs and saw me. "Ah the girl awakens!" He said laughing. "Come on my mom wants to meet the damsel in distress." He grabbed my arm and lead me downstairs. At the kitchen table there were 3 plates holding eggs, bacon, toast, and cups filled with milk. Nolan pulled out my chair for me and then sat down while a woman, presumably in her late twenties early thirtys, walked into the dining room table and sat down. "You must be Kitti Nolan has told me so much about you." She smiled showing her perfect straight white teeth.

I looked at her uniform and it was obvious she worked at a hospital. "I'm Victoria, his mother." She said with a cheerful grin. "I work at the hospital so if you ever have any health concerns you can ask me, ok?" She said causing me to nod. I sat and chewed on a piece of bacon while they talked in laughed. After we finished eating Nolan and I went into the living room after his mother said she was going to bed. "She works night shift at the hospital so the only sleep she gets is during the day." He explained. Dad used to work night shifts at the tire plant but quit after mom died. We looked at the tv watching the weather in silence. It was going to snow all week. "Well the bright side is no school." He said turning to me and smiling. Being reminded of my question I meant to ask I spoke up. "Hey why didn't you go to school yesterday?" "Well I didn't feel so good yesterday morning and when I watched the weather it said snow so I just stayed here." He said turning away to face the tv.

We sat watching storm chasers in silence when the lights started flickering. A loud crack of Thunder and a bright flash of lighting cause the power to go out. "Well it looks like there's gonna be a snow storm." He said looking up. "Well I might have power at my hou-..." I stopped remembering my father. "What?" He said looking at me to finish my sentence. "Well I was gonna say we could go to my house but my dad's still there..." I said looking down. "Well I don't think we'll have to worry about him he's probably gone." He said standing up and giving me a big warm jacket. "Here put this on just till we get to ur house." He ordered and I zipped it up and put the hood on which fell on my face, I breathed in, it smells just like him. We walked to the door and walked out into the snow.

We walked halfway to my house when I turned to realize Nolan didn't have anything but a short sleeve shirt and black jeans with converse on. "Nolan, you are gonna freeze!" I yelled holding the jacket close to me as it started sleeting. "I'll be fine just come on." He said grabbing my hand and pulling me to my house where the door was unlocked. I walked in and took the jacket off and laid it on the couch and walked to the kitchen. "Hey Nolan can u see if the tv works?." I yelled walking around and heading upstairs.

I walked back down looking puzzled. "Well you have no power either-" He said turning to me. "What?" "He's not here at all and his cars in the driveway." I said thinking of my drunken father. "So no power now what?" I said jumping on the couch. "Well we have a back up generator at the house you can stay with us till the snow and stuff blows over." He said smiling at me. "Well... if it's not to much troub-" I was cut off by Nolan jumping up. "Of course not go pack some clothes and whatever u need and we'll head back to my house!" He said showing his perfect white teeth, as I went up stairs to pack my things.
