as you and kiyoko made it to the bus, you saw that the boys had already loaded it and were ready to leave. all of them were already seated inside.

kiyoko hurried up the stairs, and you followed close behind her. you looked up, seeing all the boys mingling amongst each other.. except for kageyama. he was staring right up at you. you tried your best to ignore it.

you sat down on the seat next to kiyoko in the front of the bus. kageyama was near the back, sitting next to hinata.

—2 hours later, 5:24pm—

soon, you and the team arrived at aoba johsai high school. you got off the bus and started to help with the offloading. you grab the big jug of water from off of the bus, when tsukishima approached you. "can i help you carry that?" he offered.

"yes please." you replied, and the two of you carry the heavy jug into the gymnasium. you didn't know if kageyama saw or not, but at that moment, you didn't really care.

as you entered the gym, your eyes widened at how big it was. it was huge compared to the gym we had back at our school. you glance over to the other side of the net, seeing tall boys wearing white and light blue uniforms. one boy in particular caught your eye.

he had fluffy light-brown hair, which complimented his light complexion. you watched as a group of first-year girls swarmed around around him, asking to take pictures. maybe he was the captain? you gaze at him for a few seconds, and soon he turned his head and glanced over at you. he smiled, giving you a small wave. you smiled back.

"so cool!" hinata exclaimed as he entered the gym soon after you. you and tsukishima set the heavy jug of water by the bench. "thanks." you said to him, and he gave you a nod.

you shift your gaze over at the gym entrance, seeing the rest of the karasuno team enter. they all seemed energized and excited, well, everyone except for kageyama. kageyama looked as if he had already been defeated. guilt began to wash over you. they needed kageyama at his best. after all, he was the starting setter. and the fight you had with him probably crushed his mood.

you considered apologizing right then and there, but kiyoko walked up to you before you could do anything. "you might have to sit in the stands, only managers can be with the team.. i'm sorry." she said, an apologetic smile on her face. "that's fine." you gave kiyoko a smile along with a nod.

there wasn't enough time to apologize.

as all the boys begin their warm-ups, you leave and go up to the stands.

—6:45pm—

first set: aoba johsai.

second set: karasuno.

third set: aoba johsai.

aoba johsai ended up winning that game, eliminating karasuno before they even got to the quarter finals. the final score for the last set was 33-31.

you could see the angry expressions on both kageyama and hinata's faces, despite how far away you were. they really wanted this—they really wanted to win. you couldn't help but feel bad for them, the whole team.

you watched as the frustrated boys shook hands with the players on aoba johsai. you leave the stands to go help pack up all the gear.

you see kageyama's volleyball bag left unattended near the bench. where was he? you looked over at where the team was, but you didn't see kageyama there. you didn't see tsukishima either. you grabbed kageyama's bag and slung it on your shoulder, walking outside to go look for him.

"what the hell man?" you hear kageyama's voice as you walk outside. it sounded like it came from behind the pillar beside the school. you sneak over and hide behind the pillar, secretly watching him from afar. you furrow your eyebrows as you realize who he was talking to.

it was tsukishima.

"not only did you control your volleyball team, but now you're also controlling that girl? just face it, kageyama tobio. you'll always be the king." your eyes widen at tsukishima's words. you couldn't believe he had just said that to him.

kageyama hated that nickname. 'king of the court.'

he never really liked talking about it, but all you knew was that it brought back bad memories from his junior high years.

"what the fuck did you just call me?" kageyama snapped. he reached over and grabbed tsukishima by the collar of shirt, slamming him down onto the cold grass.

"i don't care what you do to me, tsukishima." kageyama clenched his fists as tsukishima wobbled back up onto his feet. "but i'm not letting you take y/n away. that's way too fucking far."

you felt butterflies swarm your stomach as you listened to kageyama's words. but that feeling soon slipped away as you witnessed tsukishima throw a hard punch right into kageyama's face. oh no.

kageyama slammed his fist right back into tsukishima's glasses, and soon a fight started.

"tsukishima!" you gasp involuntarily, dropping kageyama's volleyball bag onto the floor and running over to the two of them. you try grabbing tsukishima's shirt, but they still continue to hit each other as hard as they could. you felt tears threatening to fall from your eyes. "guys.. please stop.." your voice cracked. they weren't listening.

you felt so guilty. this wouldn't have happened if you had just listened to kageyama—you thought.

thankfully, tanaka heard your voice and rushed over immediately.

"y/n?! oh shit-" tanaka says as he sees the fight happening right in front of you. "dumbass first years! cut it out!" tanaka bravely intervened, pulling the two of them apart. you kept your distance from them.

"what the fuck do you guys think you're doing?! holy shit!" tanaka pushes kageyama away, who had blood streaming down his nose. you look over at tsukishima on the floor. he was pressing his hand over his eye. neither of them said a word.

eventually the whole team was there, watching as coach ukai scolded the two of them for acting like fools. "i better not see this shit happen again, you hear me?"

"yes sir." kageyama and tsukishima say in sync. after the lecture, tsukishima passes by you. "sorry." he mutters so that only you hear. you hesitated slightly, but you gave him a nod. he went onto the bus, and everyone else followed him. everyone except you and kageyama.

kiyoko rested a hand on your shoulder, and it was almost as if she had read your thoughts. "go talk to him, y/n. we'll wait for you." she whispered into your ear before leaving with the team.

kageyama sat up against the wall, holding the sleeve of his karasuno jacket up to his bleeding nose. you took in a sigh before you gathered the courage to approach him.

"kageyama." you said, looking down at him. he doesn't hesitate in lifting his head to look back.

"hello." he replies. you sat down on the grass, adjusting your body so that you were up against the wall—sitting right next to him.

"kageyama, i'm so sorry."

"for what?" kageyama muttered back. he sounded lightheaded.

"for everything."

"why?"

"huh?" you furrow your eyebrows at him in confusion.

kageyama let out a soft sigh, leaning his head on your shoulder. "i should be the one to apologize. so, i'm sorry. i don't like tsukishima, but that doesn't mean i can decide whether you should talk to him or not, i understand that now. i don't want to be controlling. that's not the kind of person i want to be anymore, trust me."

kageyama stuck his palm out on your lap, and you intertwined your fingers with his.

"i dont want to be controlling either, kageyama. if you're ever uncomfortable with something i do, please don't be scared to tell me. ill listen for now on. promise me."

"i promise, y/n."
