♡TIME SKIP♡
—december 20th, saturday, 8pm.—

the second quarter of your first year at karasuno high school recently came to an end. it was now new years break. it began yesterday, and you don't have to go back to school until january 5th.

you ended the quarter with decent grades. your lowest was about an 85% for science, which the subject you hated the most. as for kageyama though.. his grades were horrible.

kageyama always struggled in school, but he didn't really care too much about it. until today, when daichi told him that he'd be kicked off the volleyball team if he didn't improve.

kageyama was eager to fix his grades now, since well, he didn't want to lose his spot on the team. especially since he was their starting setter. you agreed to help him study every night during the remainder of the break to try and at least help.

besides the topic of grades, you and kageyama are still really close. the two of you still hangout everyday and spend the night at each other's houses frequently. you also still kiss and act like a couple.. but still.. you aren't even dating.

its been about two months since that day in your room, the night he basically confessed his love for you, but there hasn't been any progress since. you've come to the conclusion that he just wasn't ready to be in a relationship, and that he wasn't ready to make that commitment yet. you tried to understand him, but it was all upsetting you.

you'd never pressure kageyama into doing something he didn't want, in this case it was being in an official relationship, but it was something you really wanted. and you didn't know how to bring it up to him that you've been waiting for it this whole time.

waiting for the day he would finally ask you to be his girlfriend.

currently the two of you sat in kageyama's car, driving home from the store. it was dark and cold outside, and the rain that fell from the sky added to the gloomy atmosphere. you sat in the passengers seat as kageyama drove.

your hand was entangled with kageyama's and he held it tightly, giving you a sense of comfort. the song, 'i want to be yours' by arctic monkeys played on the radio, complimenting the sound of the rain drops falling onto windshield.

"y/n?" kageyama glanced over at you.

"yeah?"

"just making sure you're alive. you're really quiet." kageyama said with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

"oh." you replied softly. you leaned your head against the window to your right as you listened to the song playing.

"so.. tell me what's bothering you." kageyama said so suddenly.

"huh?" you turn to look at him. he looked back at the road.

"i can tell there's something wrong, y/n."

you pause for a couple seconds as you think about his words. was it really that obvious you were upset? you couldn't tell.

"im fine, tobio."

"tell me. please?"

you let out a sigh before you decide to speak.

"do you remember that day in my room? like, the first time we kissed n' stuff. and you said you loved me."

"yeah i do."

"well, do you feel the same still?"

kageyama squeezed your hand before he spoke. "yeah."

you couldn't even tell if he mean't it or not. you pursed your lips before replying. "really?"

"i love you y/n. so much." kageyama subconsciously grazed his thumb against your hand as he held it. "but this is all so scary."

"scary?" you questioned, furrowing your eyebrows as you did.

"getting attached to someone. thats scary."

"how?"

"what if you like, really loved someone, y/n? and you devoted your whole being to them, because of how much you loved them. and they just end up leaving out of nowhere. leaving you behind, all by yourself. leaving you isolated and helpless because they were your everything. its like losing a part of you. does that make sense?" kageyama gripped the wheel tighter with his freehand.

"yeah, i understand. but thats just a part of life, kags. sometimes you have to go through those things, like heartbreak n' stuff. even though it hurts, you push through it all and learn from it. its all bound to happen in the long run, right? its okay to be scared though. but i promise you, tobio. ill never leave your side, no matter what. wait- i don't want to force you to be in a relationship or anything, its all up to you-"

"no, you're right." kageyama let out a sigh, pressing the breaks as the two of you met a red light. "i trust you, y/n. i'm ready now."

you looked up at kageyama to see if he was serious. he looked back down at you with obvious sincerity in his eyes.

there was no way you'd take advantage of that boy's pure heart. you leaned forward to press a kiss on his soft lips. "i love you, tobio."

"i love you too."
