ten 🪐 birthday

december 22nd, monday.

kageyama's birthday.

today he was turning seventeen. you decided to plan a surprise birthday party in order to celebrate. you planned to invite some of his friends from the volleyball team including hinata, tanaka, nishinoya, sugawara and daichi. you didn't want to invite anyone he didn't get along with, (mainly tsukishima and those associated with him.)

the party was going to be at 8pm at your house, since you didn't want to trash kageyama's home with all the decorations and food. you also had a karaoke machine, which you thought would be cool. you definitely wouldn't be participating in it, though. you planned to let the boys sleepover in your living room for the night. your mom was okay with it, surprisingly. she made an exception for kageyama's birthday.

besides the point about kageyama's birthday party, after weeks of waiting, the two of you were finally official. after that night in the car, the two of you worked things out. you made a promise to him that you'd never do anything to hurt him intentionally.

you couldn't help but wonder why kageyama was so afraid of commitment. did something happen in his past that caused that fear? you didn't have the courage to ask him about it, though.

it was now 6:30pm, and the boys were coming over early at 7 to help set up decorations. you decided to get yourself ready.

after a couple minutes of standing in front of your closet, you finally pulled out a pair of jeans and a light grey hoodie. the party wasn't gonna be anything fancy, so you didn't really care about what you wore. you changed into your clothes and slipped on white socks.

you approached the small vanity in your room, grabbing the bottle of dark blue nail polish from on top of it. blue was kageyama's favorite color, so you decided it would be nice to paint your nails a shade of blue. you unscrewed the cap and used the brush to smear the color onto your nails.

—7pm—

you hear a knock on your door.

you stand up from your couch to open it. it was obvious as to who it was.

"hi guys. thanks for coming." you smiled at the five boys standing there as you swung the door open. "come inside!"

"thank you, y/n-chan!" hinata grinned excitedly as he rushed inside your house, the rest of them following from behind. you closed the door and guided them into your kitchen.

"so, the decorations are on the counter. we have to blow up balloons and hang up the all streamers.. we also have to set up the cake and all the snacks. we have to finish by 8 o'clock, since that's when i told kageyama to come over. okay?" you gave the boys a quick nod, and they did the same.

"daichi and i can do the streamers! noya and hinata are obviously vertically challenged and can't reach high enough, so we got it." suga said with a grin, clearly joking. he grabbed the pack of streamers from the counter.

"we aren't!" nishinoya and hinata say in sync. their voices combined made them sound like whining babies.

you couldn't help but laugh at their antics. "nishinoya. tanaka. wanna blow balloons? hinata and i can take care of the food."

"hell yeah." tanaka grabbed the bag of balloons from the counter. nishinoya rushed up beside him. "open it! open it!" he chanted as tanaka teared the plastic wrapping.

"you guys can work in the living room. let me know if you need anything." you told the boys, and they moved to the front room.

"thanks again for inviting us over, y/n-san." daichi gave you a nod.
