thirty minutes flew by quickly after that weird interaction you had with tsukishima.

what was his problem?

you spent those long minutes of silence mindlessly scrolling on your phone while waiting for kageyama's practice to end. since you knew he'd be extra drained after volleyball today, you were there to pick him up and drive him home.

you hated how kageyama always insisted on walking home after volleyball practice. he'd always say something like,

"y/n, don't worry about it. i need the extra exercise anyways!"

or—

"but hinata wants to walk with me!"

you knew he just spouted out those excuses because he didn't want you concerned over him. you liked how he put thought into your wellbeing, but it bothered you regardless. you twirled the keys to your mom's car in between your fingers, listening to the sound of the metal clanging together.

and then the gym door swung open abruptly, immediately pulling you out of your haze.

"oh my god, i'm gonna have to babysit natsu after this.." hinata walked out tiredly, his back hunched over and sweat dripping down from his face.

"i'm gonna beat that rin girl up! we're all jumping her after this, right?" nishinoya swung his volleyball bag over his shoulder, angrily following the ginger from behind.

"nishinoya! we don't hit women!" tanaka screeched after hearing the short boy's words. "this is why no girls like you! you're short, ugly, and inconsiderate!"

"what the fuck did you just call me, baldy?" nishinoya balled his fists up, threatening to punch tanaka. all the taller boy did was laugh.

"oh no! this oompa-loompa over here is gonna tear my balls off!"

"cut it out, boys!" daichi grumbled as he exited, grouchy as ever. "kageyama! make sure everything is locked up!"

"alright," kageyama replied as he tiredly swung his bag over his shoulder. he listened to daichi; ensuring that all the doors were locked before exiting the gym like everyone else.

all the boys radiated the same exhausted energy as they waddled out the gym like a group of slugs. it was unusual for the most energetic boys on karasuno to look so drained. you stood up with your bookbag and approached kageyama.

"hey, you!"

"y/n! hey."

you'd give kageyama a hug if he wasn't so sweaty...you decided to flash him a smile instead.

"i came here to pick you up," you showed him your keys. "i knew you'd be tired."

kageyama gave you a weak smile in response to your words.

"i love you so much."
