Niki hated coffee. It was too bitter, and only tasted semi-ok when there was half a bag of sugar poured in. But working as a content creator meant she either had to drink coffee to survive, or sleep and miss all her deadlines. So, coffee it was.
She sighed, opening the door to her usual café, her bag swinging against her hip. Her apartment had been all she'd seen for the past five days, so a change of scenery while working would be good.
"Welcome!" a cheery voice called out, and Niki looked up. Usually the workers here were quiet and didn't greet her when she walked in-which was good, social interaction when she was drained was tough enough. Her eyes widened when she saw who was behind the counter.
Pretty...
She shook her head quickly, flustered that she had even thought of such a thing. She had work. Being distracted by the pretty worker would not help her at all. "H-hi!" she stammered back, smiling awkwardly. If you had noticed her nervousness, you didn't show it, leaning over the counter to grin easily back. Wow, ok, Niki was going to die because that was cute.
"What can I get for you?" you asked, hands tip-tapping the screen.
Niki gulped and opened her mouth to say something she had never said before. "W-what do you recommend?"
"Hm..." you tapped on the screen a few times, frowning while looking at the menu. "It's simple, but I always love a café au lait, and our coffee is really good."
"I'll take that."
She watched you from her table, hopefully not creepily, as you made her drink, a small smile working its way onto her face as you moved around. When it was done, you brought it over, and your hands brushed over each other. Niki blushed, already muttering apologies, almost burning up when you answered with a giggle.
Attempting to calm down, she took a sip of her coffee, frowning when her fingers touched paper under the cup. She unfolded the paper.
