You called out to the customer who entered, quickly waving at George who had just sat down at the counter. "Welcome! What can I get for you?"
"You new around here? I've never seen you around." The customer leaned against the counter, winking when you locked eyes with them.
"What can I get for you today?" you asked again, trying to keep the customer service smile on your face and resisting the urge to just run away. Customers like this were the worse.
They laughed, moving even closer. "Playing hard to get, huh?"
You took a deep breath, stepping back slightly. Your eyes flicked to George, expecting him to maybe look a little annoyed, but his face was unreadable, eyes locked onto the customer and completely still. It...unsettled you a little, usually, George was expressive, but a tap on the counter diverted your attention away. "Hey, sweetie? Want my number?"
"I'm sorry, I-"
"Wasn't a question, sweetie."
You took another step back, looking around for support that never arrived, heart pounding. The customer just smiled at you, eyes glinting in the light. Turning to George, you pleaded silently for him to come and help you, but he was still staring blankly, eyes locked onto the customer rather than you. Defeated, you knew there was only one thing that could make them leave you alone and so you grabbed a piece of paper, scribbling down George's number instead of yours and handing it over.
The customer took it with a grin, leaving the café. The door slammed shut, and you turned to George, frowning. "And why did you not help, huh? Some boyfriend you are."
You faltered at his expression, the blankness now being replaced with pure anger, brows furrowed and jaw clenched tight. This was the angriest you had ever seen him, and it was directed towards you. What had you even done?
Seeing that the café was pretty much empty, you walked over to the other side, cautiously moving towards where George was sitting. "What did I even do?"
He didn't answer, hand reaching out to clasp your wrist, fingernails digging in, hard enough to draw blood. You yelped at the pain, watching pinpricks of blood spurt out from where he was holding onto it. He didn't acknowledge it, standing up and ignoring your questions and then leading you out, pulling you along with him. With strength you had never seen him display, he dragged you like a ragdoll all the way home, you tripping up over your own feet in order to keep up.
Throughout the whole ordeal, he remained silent, eyes locked onto something into the distance and not on you.
You fell to your knees out of exhaustion when he finally arrived back home, looking up at him. "Now are you gonna tell me what I did wrong or what?"
A hand wrapped around your neck, pulling you up against the wall so you were eye level with him, feet not even touching the floor and hanging uselessly. Squeezing, he watched you start to choke. "You gave him your number. You're mine."
"No-no!" you coughed, hands scrabbling at his hand, which was still pressed against your neck. "I-I didn't!"
"I saw you," he answered coldly, suddenly letting go and watching you drop to the floor, ignoring the fact you were gasping for air. "You're mine."
"I-I gave him your number! So you could tell him to stop bothering me!"
His eyes widened in surprise until pure happiness spread over his face. He reached down, ignoring the fact that you flinched, and pulled you towards him, cooing at you when your legs trembled and struggled to keep you up. Shaking his head, he effortlessly carried you. "You should've just told me first."
"I TRIED TO!" you yelled back at him, gritting your teeth in frustration when he just laughed at you.
He closed your bedroom door behind him, the lock closing with a soft click. Frowning, you started to struggle in his arms, but he placed you down on the bed gently. "I knew something like this would happen someday, so-" he rummaged in the bedside table drawer, pulling out a container that rattled while he opened it. He pulled out a singular capsule, holding it in front of your mouth. You refused to open it, eyes wide. He sighed. "-this is for you. Take it. Be good."
Shaking your head frantically, you struggled in his grip as the capsule came closer and closer to your mouth.
"Be. Good." He growled at you, forcing your mouth open easily and making you swallow the capsule, smiling as your struggling started to weaken. "It did say fast-acting."
"Why?" you asked weakly, limbs feeling like dead-weights.
He chuckled as if that was a stupid question.
"Because I love you. More than anything else in the world."
