My life in the apocalypse

Chapter 14

*roxie's p.o.v.*

We have been walking for awhile and my legs are starting to hurt but I know that we can't stop. "Tyreese can we stop?" Mika says. "No we can't we have to keep going." I reply.

"She's right. We have to keep going till we find somewhere safe." Lizzie says. I then hear someone scream and Tyreese says, "Stay here."

"What are you doing?" Mika asks. I see that she is scared, but she can't be anymore. Who knows how long it will be till we find the rest of the group and we will be alone like this till then. That is if we find the group. No! I can't think like that!

I will see Carl and my dad again. I'm saying these things to myself but know better than that. I might not ever see them again.

"Putting you to where you can see in both directions." He says while putting them back to back.

"Roxie come with me. You girls stay here." He says handing Judith to Lizzie. "Please don't go." Mika says. I kneel down to her height and say, "They could be from the prison. We have to make sure." I hand her a gun.

She nods her head and me and Tyreese run toward the screams. When we get there we see walkers attacking some men but they are not from the prison.

We help kill the walkers but somehow they all get bitten. "Follow the train tracks." One of them says. I nod and we go to head back to Mika and Lizzie.

When we turn around I see Carol. I run up to her and say, "I missed you. I haven't seen you since the prison went down." "I missed you too."

I take Judith from her arms and we start following the tracks. "I might have some food in my bag." Carol says. "Keep it. We had some food a little while ago. We need to save what you have." I say.

While we were walking on the tracks we see a sign. Mika and Lizzie run up to it. It says 'those who arrive survive' and under it it has a map that all the tracks lead to. It's a place called terminus.

I look at Carol and Tyreese and nod. Lizzie and Mika look at all of us and I say, "Looks like we are going to Terminus."

We keep walking on the tracks and it starts to get dark so we stop and make a fire. "Are you worried?" Carol asks me once Lizzie, Mika and Tyreese are asleep. "About what?" "Your dad and Carl." "No. I saw my dad and Beth get out. My dad is a tough son of a bitch. I know he is alive." "What about Carl?" "I don't know. I'm sure he is alive but I just don't think I'll ever get the chance to see him again. I miss him a lot. I love him a lot."

She doesn't say anything but just hugs me. She rubs my back and I drift off into sleep on her shoulder.

*the next day*

"Come on Roxie. We have to go." I hear Mika say. I groan and get up. I grab my bag and start walking beside Carol.

"Here do you want me to carry her?" I ask her since she has probably been holding her all night. "Sure." She says while hanging me a sleeping Judith.

I smile at the baby. She is so cute when she is sleeping. "Look over there." I hear Lizzie say and look to where she is pointing.

It's a house with a fence and some pecan trees. I smile and say, "We could stay there for awhile." "Yeah. Let's go inside and check it out." Tyreese says.

I stay outside with Lizzie and Mika while they check the house. "It's clear." Carol says. I walk inside and lay Judith on a chair in what looks to be a living room.

"Girls go gather some pecans." Carol says. I start to walk out with Lizzie and Mika but hear Carol say, "Not you Roxie." I turn around and walk over to them confused. "What do you need?" I ask.

"You haven't eaten in days, you barely ever talk anymore, and you seem depressed." Tyreese says. I look down and look back up to look at Carol. "What I told you last night. When I said I wasn't worried about them. I really am. That is all I think about nowadays. Thinking what if they didn't make it or what if they forgot about me." I say almost in tears.

They look at each other and sigh. "They didn't forget about you. I'm sure they are worried about you just as much." Tyreese says.

I nod and go to the living room. I sit down on the couch and I hear Lizzie and Mika come inside from getting the pecans.

"Are we gonna cook them?" I hear Lizzie say. "Yes." Carol says. I get up and go to the kitchen. "I'm gonna go get some wood from the side of the house for a fire." I say. "Okay. Be careful." "I will."

I walk to the side of the house and get about 5 pieces of wood. I set them in the fire place and go to the kitchen and grab a lighter. I make the fire and go pick Judith up.

I walk over to my bag and fix her a bottle. I feed her and go back to the living room next to the fire. I stand up and go to the other side of the house with Judith in my arms.

I walk into one of the rooms and see that it's a baby's room. I smile and put Judith in the crib that was in the room. I find some toys and put them in the crib for her.

I walk to the kitchen and grab a candle and bring it to the room. I grab a blanket that was on a shelf and lay it out on the floor. I sit down and grab a book that was in my bag. It is called 'Nancy Drew' and I open it and start to read.

I look out the window and see that it is almost night time. I close my book but bend the corner  of the page so I know when to start back up. I walk to the kitchen and see Carol getting the pecans out of the oven.

"Hey Roxie, where have you been?" Mika asks. "I found a baby's room and I put Judith in there in a crib. I just stayed in there with her and read my book." "Oh okay."

"You want some?" Carol asks. "Sure." I say. She puts some in a little bowl and hands them to me. "Thanks." "You're welcome sweetie."

I walk back into the room I was in and see Judith playing with the toys and giggling. I chuckle at her cuteness and sit down back on the blanket.

She looks so much like Carl. It makes me miss him even more. She is the only piece of him I have left. I will protect her till I die.

When I'm done with the pecans I put the bowl on a table and lay down. I drift off into much needed sleep.

*the next day*

When I wake up I see Judith fast asleep in the crib. I walk to the kitchen to see everyone else up. "Hi." Tyreese says. "Hi." I say groggily. "Me and Tyreese are gonna go get water from the pump." Carol says. "Can I come?" I ask.

"Sure." She says. I smile and go pick up a bucket. We walk outside and walk over to the pump which is awhile away.

On our way back to the house I say, "I hope we see the group again." "Me too." They both say. When we get to the house I drop my bucket and gasp.

I see Lizzie with a bloody knife and a dead Mika laying on the ground. Judith is just a few feet away. "Don't worry. She'll come back." Lizzie says. I go grab Judith and walk inside. I put her in her crib and sit down and start to cry.

A few minutes later I hear a gunshot and rush outside. I see Carol with her gun raised and a lifeless Lizzie on the ground. I go hug Carol. She hugs me back tightly and we walk inside.

I go back to the room and play with Judith to try and get my mind off things. I hear Tyreese come in and say, "We are leaving." "Okay."

I pack up my things and pack up some more things for Judith like diapers, more formula, and the toys she was playing with.

I walk outside with Carol and Tyreese and we start following the tracks again. Looks like we are gonna get to Terminus sooner than I thought.
