over 1,000 years later...

i strode down the tiled floor of the high school confidently, knowing all eyes were on me, the new girl. i headed for the office, where i needed a little chat with the secretary.

"good morning! i'd like to go to school here." i smiled sweetly as she looked up at me in annoyance.

"miss, you can't just walk in here and say you wanna go to school. you have to get all your pape-"

"i'm sure you'll find that i don't actually need any of those things, and that i just want to go here. and i will, because i'm okay to do that. can i get a schedule please?" i compelled her, and she blinked slowly.

"of course. your name?" she turned to the computer.

"brit kaldottir."

"well brit, your first class will be history with mr. saltzman, who is right down the hall. from there, i'm sure the students will help you find your way around. have a great day!" she handed me the paper, and i smiled.

"you too!" as i turned around to walk away, i notice a group of four people looking at me in a different way than everyone else. they looked suspicious. the brown haired boy started talking, and i used my vamp hearing as i walked past, acting oblivious.

"-definitely compelled the secretary. you heard her too, right caroline?" he muttered, and the blonde made a noise of affirmation.

"that's not good. another vampire in town? either she's bored, or she wants something." the dark skinned girl said.

"you're right bonnie." at the voice of the third girl, who's face i hadn't seen, i whipped my head around, no longer caring if they knew i was listening or not.

"ta- katherine?" i hissed quietly as she turned towards me, and vamp boy raised his head in alarm, looking at caroline.

"what did she say, stefan?" katherine asked, as if she couldn't hear me.

"she knows katherine. the second she heard your voice, she turned around." he replied, and i furrowed my brow, looking closer.

"a doppelgänger. oh." i realised, and quickly turned and ran to the girls bathroom as the bell rang. why the hell was there a doppelgänger in mystic falls? and if there is, how long until klaus found out? i shook my head to clear my thoughts as i walked through the now empty hallways to my classroom.

"-and i'm excited to teach you guys- oh, hello!" i'm the teacher cut off as i entered the room.

"are you mr. saltzman?" i ask, and he does a small double take at my accent.

"i am. you are...?" he looked at me, and i smiled as i looked around the class, seeing the four from the hallway looking at me.

"brit kaldottir. pleasure to meet you." i replied, and sat down at the only empty desk, right next to stefan.

"welcome to mystic falls, brit. now, as i was saying..." i tuned him out as i turned to stefan, who was already looking at me.

"hello stefan." i cock my head slightly as he glared at me. "what did i do?" i huffed as he looked away.

after the rest of the class went buy, i quickly made my way to walk out, before a hand clamped around my arm.

"brit. we need to talk." i turned to see stefan, bonnie, caroline, and elena. i easily twisted my arm out of his grasp, and laughed lightly.

"well, i heard there's a lovely picnic later today, why don't we talk then?" i smiled, and decided to threaten them a bit. "don't even think about trying anything stupid. i'm much more powerful than you think." my smile turned more into a smirk, and i left the school. it bored me enough for the day.

arriving at the picnic, i took a breath of fresh air as i walked over to the lemonade stand. as i got closer, i realised it was laced with vervain, and i wrinkled my nose as i turned away, promptly bumping into elena. i tried my hardest not to vamp out at the sight of her, because she seemed much nicer than katherine.

"elena! it's... nice to see you!" i strained out, and she raised her eyebrow.

"is it?" she sounded very disbelieving, and i sighed.

"okay! you got me. i would like nothing more than to rip your head off because you look like not one, but two girls i heavily despise and i'm sure you're lovely it's just not helping that you are a carbon copy of them!" i burst out, and covered my mouth. "sorry."

"that's okay brit. may i ask though, how do you know katherine?" she asked, and i took a second to look around before answering.

"tell stefan instead of spying from the gazebo across the park, he can come here. caroline too. she's a newbie vampire, i can tell. stefan is much better at pretending to be casual than she is." i said, and i heard the two sigh, arriving near us a minute later.

"now that we're all here!" i clap my hands, but was promptly interrupted.

"no, no no no! we are definitely not all here, because i wasn't. i wanna hear about how the new hot vampire chick in town doesn't like dear old katherine as much as us." a new voice said, and i scoffed as i turned to see another guy.

"and who are you?" i looked him up and down, and he smirked.

"damon salvatore, stefan's older brother. nice to meet you." he smirked cockily and held out his hand, and i just looked at it before turning back towards the three.

"anyways. we should probably sit down, this is a long story." i said as elena got two cups of lemonade. as she was about to hand the other one to stefan, damon snatched it and took a huge gulp. i winced as he promptly spit it back out, coughing.

"ver- vervain." he rasped out, and caroline looked around in alarm.

"oh my god..." she trailed off as her gaze landed on a police woman standing next to a man, both of them looking at us in anger.

"that's a werewolf." i noticed. "what the hell did you guys do to piss off a werewolf?" damon laughed weakly at my question, and i sighed. "story time can wait. let's go make sure the three of you don't get outed to the whole town." i grabbed a glass of lemonade, and braced myself slightly as i downed the whole thing, keeping eye contact with the wolf. he looked surprised, but nodded his head in acknowledgement as elena gaped at me.

"you just- that had vervain! how did you-" she couldn't finish her sentence, and i rolled my eyes lightly.

"i've been alive- well, dead for a long time. it's wise to take what makes you weak and expose yourself to it so it doesn't anymore. i'm unaffected by vervain for the most part." i started walking in the direction of the woods, where i saw werewolf boy head. "you guys coming?" i asked the brothers, and they looked at each other before looking back at me.

"let's go beat some werewolf ass." damon answered, and we all headed toward the forest.
