"brit, wake up. wake up!" rebekah shook me awake. i sat up, looking around my living room, where me and rebekah had gone back to last night, ditching the main ball.
"what's up?" i yawned, stretching.
"elijah just called me. esther wants to kill the bloody lot of us!" she was freaking out, and i was immediately on alert.
"what?" we sped up to my room, where i tossed her some of my clothes to change into as i changed myself, and we sped to the grill, where elijah had told her to meet him.
"i need you two to go watch over elena, she's in the tunnels under the city." he requested us, and i nodded as rebekah sighed.
"beks, she's my friend too. try not to be too mean." i looked over at her as we walked to where elena was passed out, and the blonde just laughed.
"i'll tone down the bitchiness a bit." she relented, and i smiled.
per my request, rebekah ended up not being too mean to elena, only slightly rude, but elena treated her the same. i was the mediator, and i think i did my job fairly well.
"you're just bloody annoying, and if it wasn't for brit-" another one of rebekah's jabs at elena was cut off as she started desiccating, and i jumped up in alarm.
"what's wrong with her?" i kneeled next to her, putting her head on my lap, and elena looked at her in slight regret.
"she's linked to all her siblings. esther is going to kill them all, and we can't do anything about it." she started to walk away, and i let her with a reluctant nod.
"go on, i'll stay here and make sure she's alright." i said, and waited for the original to wake up.
when she did, she got ready to run out, but i stopped her.
"are you okay?" i asked with genuine concern, and she calmed down a bit.
"i'll be okay, but let's go find my brothers."
leaving the cave, we noticed it was dark out.
"elijah? where are you?" rebekah had called her brother on the phone.
"the old witch house. the salvatores helped us stop esther from killing us all." i listened in on their conversation as we started sprinting there.
"us?"
"finn is a martyr, rebekah. he was willing to give up his life in order to kill all of us, all the original vampires."
"what of me?" i asked him, as we reached our destination. i avoided kol's glare and klaus' confused look as i looked at elijah. "did she want to kill me too?"
"no. she told us something about you that i find extremely hard to believe, so i intended to ask you before i left. is it true that you still have not killed a human? over a thousand years, you've resisted the urge." i froze, staring at him. they all heard. they all knew.
"forgive me for intruding, brother, but who exactly is she?" klaus waved a hand towards me, and kol laughed mockingly.
"a betraying wench, that's what." he said, and i flinched. rebekah turned around and slapped him, as i tried to stop myself from crying, to no use.
"i deserved that." i muttered. "nik, look at me." i demanded, and it was his turn to glare.
"do not call me that!"
"i gave you that nickname, and if you'll shut up for three bloody seconds, i'll give you your memories back too." i snapped angrily.
"what do you mean?" his glare had softened a bit, and i walked up so i was directly in front of him.
"remember everything about me, about how i was a part of your past." i stepped back next to rebekah, who held me in her arms as we watched klaus remember.
"you taught me how to draw." the hybrid said with a poker face.
"and you taught me how to paint. i still have all of our art pieces with me, i look at them almost every day." i said quietly, stepping away from rebekah, and hesitantly towards him. "nik, i'm so sorry-" i got cut off as he pulled me into a tight hug, tighter than elijah and rebekah had done. surprised, my arms immediately went up to hug him back, and we stayed like that for a few minutes.
"that was surprising." i heard rebekah mutter to elijah.
"i thought he'd be angry, seems i was wrong." he replied.
"am i the only one upset that she abandoned us? if she cared so much, why did she straight up leave us?" kol yelled, and i stiffened.
"shh, it's okay." klaus said faintly, and we stepped away from each other.
"i may be slightly upset that she did abandon us, but i have my best friend back. and that's something so special to me, i wouldn't stay upset in fear of pushing her away." klaus explained. "i suggest you think about your anger kol, and if it's really justified."
"i remember what i said to you last night." the brunette hissed at me. "i said i wouldn't be mad after a while, and that i'd be happy to have you back. but you? i didn't know how easily you left us, walking around and telling us the same thing. and after seeing how easy it was for you to let us go, let ME go?" he took a breath. "it will be just as easy for me to let you go. i don't care about you, brit kaldottir. whatever we had? it's done, and you ended it by walking away from us all those years ago." he turned to walk away, but glanced back at his siblings. "don't expect me back in this godforsaken town anytime soon."
i stood silently, tears streaming down my face as he sped off.
"brit-" klaus started.
"i don't really want to hear it, nik. i'm going home for the night."
"do you want me to-"
"no thanks, beks. another time." before elijah could say anything, i sped off to go cry alone in my room.
