"I'm not sure if I can do this," Seth blurted out. Aurélien and his boyfriend were sitting in Aurélien's car outside the Clearwater residence waiting for the shifter to steel himself enough to enter. "Maybe we should've talked to them individually."
"We agreed it was best to do this all at once. Rip the plaster off, get it over with," Aurélien reminded him calmly, reaching out to grasp Seth's hand. "If one person reacted badly or even just not positively you would lose your nerve and not tell anyone. But they'd still find out and then you miss your opportunity to do it face to face."
"I know," Seth groaned out, staring at his house like he'd rather be anywhere else in the world.
"It might not be that bad," Aurélien offered up cheerfully, climbing out of the driver's seat and moving round the car to open the passage seat for Seth (his boyfriend had developed the habit of letting him do things like that because he knew how much showing that kind of etiquette in a relationship meant to Aurélien).
"Famous last words if ever I've heard them," Seth complained. "Now you've jinxed us." Despite his bemoaning, Seth climbed out the passenger seat and followed Aurélien up the path to the door.
Aurélien reached out and wrapped his knuckles against the wooden frame of Seth's front door before smiling at him
"Not jinxed anymore," he proclaimed cheerfully.
"I'm not—"
Seth's responding remark was cut off by Leah Clearwater throwing open the front door of the house, looking incredibly annoyed. It was an expression Aurélien had come to associate with her, coming to the conclusion that a short fuse meant she'd be the kind of person easily annoyed.
"You've invited us all, and I mean all of us, over to mum's like you're about to announce something life changing and then make us wait for you?" Leah said crossly, folding her arms in a manner that seemed very much like her mother before she was about to tell one of her two children off. It was a little disconcerting. "They're already arguing."
"Sorry about keeping you waiting. We do in fact have an announcement to make," Aurélien said, following Leah into the living room where every sinful member of the pack (minus the newer members because the couple didn't know them) was waiting for them. They were crammed into every surface and it was almost a little overwhelming.
"So it is about an announcement?" Sam said, as serious as ever. Next to him was Emily, three months pregnant and radiating happiness. The couple had gotten married right before Aurélien and Seth had left for college and the vampire was happy they were getting the family they'd always wanted.
"Another bombshell? Is Seth pregnant too?" Jared said with a snicker. Sam immediately hushed him and Embry's laughter, directing them to listen to Seth and Aurélien.
"Well," Seth began nervously, glancing round at his friends and family. Aurélien squeezed his hand in silent support, shooting him an encouraging smile. "So you know how vampires are immortal?"
