"This is crazy," Seth said softly from where he was draped across Aurélien's chest. They were lying on the vampire's bed after leaving the living room for a while to escape from the insanity unfolding in the Cullen household and seek comfort in each other as all mates and imprints craved to do in times of uncertainty and anxiety. "I mean, how is this even possible?"

"I don't know," is the only response Aurélien could give. Bella had been home for a few weeks now and it was impossibly evident that she was somehow pregnant. Impossible in the anatomical sense because most people with any knowledge of the human body knew pregnant woman shouldn't be showing as much as Bella was at only a month along. "I've never heard of anything like this. Not in all my travels or when I was in the Volturi. There was lots of books about immortal children, but none about hybrid ones. It's impossible."

"Tell me about it." Aurélien didn't need to look up to identify the person who had spoke. He had heard Bree walking up the stairs and along the corridor, and hoped in vain that she'd walk past the room and leave the couple to their private time. But of course, she hadn't. "I mean, this is pretty wild."

"That's exactly what I'm thinking," Seth agreed.

"Right! Like, how many sex education classes has Edward sat through? And he still got Bella pregnant? Seriously?"

"I take it back. We are not on the same page at all."

"Okay, but it is kind of ridiculous though."

"Bree, now is really not the time," Aurélien cut in, not sure where the conversation between Bree and Seth was going but sure he didn't want it to go there.

"Sorry, but humour is my coping mechanism," Bree said, holding her hands up in mock surrender. "I mean Bella is pregnant. And with a vampire-human thing."

"You don't have to give birth to it," Seth pointed out. "Bella's the real victim here. That thing is gonna come out her—"

"Let's not think to much about the semantics," Aurélien interrupted his boyfriend. While he planned to support Bella's decision, he still found it very questionable that she wanted to keep whatever was growing inside her, despite the fact that they didn't even know what it was. Looking from a scientific perspective, hybrid offspring of two different creatures where never a very good idea. Mostly because the product was....not great — a perversion of nature, if you were feeling melodramatic. "We all need to stay calm, for Bella's sake."

As if the universe was toying with Aurélien, the sound of a motorbike approaching suddenly caught the attention of everyone in the room.

"Good luck with that," Bree snorted, crossing her arms. "Because I smell Jacob Black approaching."

"Jesus Christ," is all Aurélien can think to say, because his family are barely holding together as it is, without adding Jacob Black to the mix. If history had taught them anything, it was that that boy was over emotional at the best of times and down right explosive at the worst. Being calm and level headed are not Jacob Black's forte.
