"It's quite beautiful here," Seth said, his eyes shut as he bathed in the sun that was so rare in Forks. They where seated in a beautiful field of purple flowers, in the forest of the usually dreary town, Aurélien propped against the tree reading a book and Seth using his lap as a pillow. The russet skinned boy had been watching a Netflix show on his phone (he'd explained the entire plot to Aurélien, who'd immediately forgotten it all) until he'd gotten bored and was now sunbathing.
"It is, isn't it? I found it when we first came to Forks." Aurélien had been very proud to have found something so beautiful in such a grey town, and he'd made the mistake of telling Edward who, at the time, had spent most days and nights complaining about how boring Forks was and how unremarkable the people were. Aurélien's brother had then proceeded to use it pretty much everyday and essentially ruin it for him. Then Edward had had the audacity to show it to Bella as if it was his; a lie Aurélien was quick to reveal when he'd first met the clumsy brunette.
Seth and Aurélien had spent lots of time together in the months since their date in Paris, basking in domestic bliss and taking full advantage of the fact that the school year for Seth was now over. He seemed excited that he would soon be entering his final year, but apprehensive for his exams. Aurélien was not concerned though, Seth was smart and he was sure the younger boy would get into the college he wanted.
"Y'know," Seth said suddenly, breaking the silence. "When I turn 17 next month I'll technically be older than you." Aurélien glanced up from his book and fixed his gaze on Seth, who was trying to look as nonchalant as possible. Aurélien had been sensing the other boy's growing frustration at their lack of intimacy, and he understood, he really did. Seth felt like he was being treated as if he were delicate, but Aurélien's actions were not because of Seth, but because of himself. The last time he'd let a kiss become long and heated, it had escalated quickly. Aurélien didn't trust his control, and he didn't want Seth doing something in the heat of the moment and then regretting it later. Aurélien didn't want Seth feeling as if they should be having an intimate relationship just because they were both over sixteen and also imprints.
"Technically, but not really," Aurélien responded, turning to the next page in his book and continuing to read.
"Aurélien." His name being spoken with such a soft, vulnerable sounding voice made him look up again. "If you're not physically...interested in me, then just say. I don't want to make you uncomfortable." Aurélien widened his eyes and shook his head.
"Is that really what you think? That I'm not interested?" Seth nodded. "Well I am interested." Aurélien hated the insecurity that he occasionally saw in Seth, but he was a teenager still, so it was understandable.
"Then why—?"
"Because your 16 Seth," Aurélien said softly. "And before you remind me your going to be 17, I'm going to remind you that I'm 194. I've lived my life. I know who I am and what I want. You should be able to discover those things for yourself, to live your life to the fullest. To experience as many things as possible and then decide if I'm what you want. I would hate for you to settle for me at only 16 because you feel you have to, and then regret never exploring other options. No one should be tied down so early."
